This role, Solutions Architect, is designed for global original equipment manufacturers and emerging domestic startups. It involves designing next-generation mobility experiences and requires enthusiasm for mapping technologies.
WHAT YOU'LL DO You will serve as a trusted technical and strategic advisor to clients, working closely with them to conceptualize, prototype, and implement solutions on the Mapbox platform. Your primary mission is to convert intricate mobility challenges into functional digital experiences and tangible business results. This position is ideal for a professional who balances technical proficiency with business insight and excels at the convergence of planning, design, and execution. Individuals with a background in software engineering, product management, solutions engineering, and technical consulting are well-suited for this path. Core responsibilities include:
- Partnering with sales personnel to articulate Mapbox's technical advantages and frame relevant opportunities.
- Leading in-depth technical discovery to identify client objectives, specifications, and success metrics, ensuring proposed solutions align with business goals.
- Architecting and delivering scalable solutions utilizing Mapbox SDKs, APIs, and platform services.
- Addressing technical inquiries from clients (RFI/RFQ) through clear documentation and persuasive solution designs.
- Supporting the pre-sales process with technical expertise and conducting rapid enablement sessions, demonstrations, and proof-of-concept validations within digital customer settings.
- Driving client success by hastening the realization of value and encouraging adoption within complex, interconnected vehicle environments.
- Providing structured feedback from client engagements to guide product and engineering strategy.
- Monitoring developments in mapping, mobility, and artificial intelligence to disseminate best practices internally and to external partners.
WHAT WE BELIEVE ARE IMPORTANT TRAITS FOR THIS ROLE
- A minimum of five years of experience in solutions architecture, customer-facing engineering, or consulting roles.
- Proficiency in both Japanese and English, encompassing written and verbal communication.

Location: Mapbox Japan
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.
- Familiarity with web and mobile development technologies such as JavaScript, Android, and iOS.
- Demonstrated history of building applications that integrate backend APIs with frontend SDKs.
- Additional experience with GIS, location intelligence, geospatial datasets, and mapping is advantageous.
- Familiarity with major cloud infrastructure providers (AWS, Azure, or GCP) is a plus.
- Knowledge of AI technologies is a plus.
- Proven capability in formulating technical responses to RFI/RFQ and producing detailed proposal documents.
- Strong business understanding and the autonomy to operate effectively across distributed teams.
- The skill to translate complex specifications into robust, scalable architectures that meet client objectives.
- Excellent communication abilities for both technical and executive audiences, with a proven record of influencing executive, product, engineering, and developer stakeholders.
- Experience working with original equipment manufacturers and first-tier suppliers.
- Understanding of the automotive sector and its associated ecosystem technologies, including navigation, advanced driver-assistance systems, intelligent speed assistance, and software-defined vehicles.
- Willingness to travel up to 25% for client engagements, workshops, and industry conferences.
