Mapbox Japan is actively seeking a Solutions Architect to join our team and help shape the future of location-aware technology in the region. The Solutions Architect will act as a trusted technical and business advisor, partnering directly with customers to understand their unique challenges and map out innovative solutions using the Mapbox platform. This role requires a blend of deep technical expertise and strong commercial awareness to translate complex requirements into compelling and effective digital experiences. You will be responsible for designing and prototyping solutions that turn mobility, mapping, and data into measurable business outcomes for a diverse range of clients. The ideal candidate will thrive at the intersection of strategy, architecture, and delivery, working closely with global OEMs and domestic startups alike. What you'll do
Partner with Sales teams to position Mapbox's technical value and actively shape new opportunities within the automotive and enterprise sectors.
Lead comprehensive technical discovery sessions to deeply understand customer goals, specific requirements, and critical success criteria for each engagement.
Design and present robust, scalable architectures leveraging Mapbox SDKs, APIs, and core platform services to address complex business needs.
Respond to detailed technical customer requests, such as Requests for Information and proposals, by crafting clear and persuasive technical documentation and solution proposals.
Provide expert technical guidance throughout the demanding pre-sales cycle, including facilitating rapid technical enablement through interactive workshops, live demonstrations, and proof-of-concept validations.
Proactively drive customer success by accelerating time-to-value and offering strategic support for adoption and expansion within complex and dynamic technology ecosystems.
Act as a passionate advocate for customer needs, synthesizing feedback and channeling it effectively to influence product direction and engineering roadmaps.
Maintain a current understanding of evolving mapping, mobility, and artificial intelligence technologies to share best practices internally and with external stakeholders.
Collaborate extensively with Original Equipment Manufacturers and Tier-1 suppliers to ensure solutions align with industry-specific requirements and standards.
Demonstrate a willingness to travel up to 25% to participate in critical customer meetings, strategic workshops, and key industry events that strengthen our market presence.
Requirements
Candidates must possess a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in solutions architecture, customer-facing engineering roles within pre-sales, or consulting environments.
Fluency in both Korean and English is mandatory, encompassing written and verbal communication to ensure clear and effective collaboration with all stakeholders.
Successful applicants must be legally able to reside and work in South Korea, with the position requiring a permanent based presence in the country.
A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related technical field is strongly preferred and expected.
A solid understanding of modern web and mobile technologies, including JavaScript, Android, and iOS platforms, is essential for this role.
Experience in building applications that seamlessly integrate back-end APIs with front-end SDKs is a critical requirement for success.
Prior experience with Geographic Information Systems, location intelligence, and geospatial data is considered a significant advantage.
Familiarity with major cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform is highly desirable.
Experience working with artificial intelligence technologies and frameworks is viewed as a beneficial skill set.
Candidates must have a proven track record of leading technical responses, including crafting comprehensive responses to Requests for Information and detailed proposals.
Strong business acumen is necessary, with the comfort level to operate autonomously and manage complex relationships across distributed global teams.
The ability to translate intricate and detailed requirements into scalable, robust, and reliable architectures that align with strict customer objectives is required.
Excellent communication skills must be demonstrated to both technical teams and executive leadership, with a history of influencing diverse stakeholders.
Experience collaborating with OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers in the automotive supply chain is a key requirement.
A deep understanding of the Automotive industry ecosystem, including navigation, autonomous driving, ADAS, ISA, and software-defined vehicle concepts, is mandatory.
Candidates must be willing to commit to travel requirements of up to 25% of their time for customer engagements and industry events.
