What you'll do

Design and implement pyrometallurgical processes for lithium extraction, focusing on maximizing yield and minimizing environmental impact.
Conduct feasibility studies and process simulations to evaluate new technologies and methodologies in lithium processing.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, operations, and quality assurance, to ensure seamless integration of new processes into existing systems.
Monitor and analyze process performance data, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions as necessary.
Develop and maintain process documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), process flow diagrams, and technical reports.
Lead troubleshooting efforts for process-related issues, utilizing root cause analysis to identify and resolve problems efficiently.
Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in pyrometallurgy, incorporating best practices into Mangrovelithium's operations.
Train and mentor junior engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the team.
Ensure compliance with safety regulations and environmental standards, promoting a safe working environment for all employees.
Participate in project management activities, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation for process engineering projects.
Collaborate with external stakeholders, including suppliers and regulatory bodies, to ensure alignment on process requirements and standards.
Prepare and present technical findings and recommendations to senior management and other stakeholders, facilitating informed decision-making.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or a related field.
A minimum of 5 years of experience in process engineering, with a focus on pyrometallurgy or related fields.
Strong understanding of lithium extraction processes and the pyrometallurgical techniques used in the industry.
Proficiency in process simulation software and data analysis tools, such as Aspen Plus or MATLAB.
Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex data and make informed decisions.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey technical information clearly to diverse audiences.
Experience with project management principles and practices, including budgeting and scheduling.
Knowledge of safety and environmental regulations relevant to the mining and metallurgy sectors.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment, fostering positive relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.

Nice to have

Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in a relevant engineering discipline.
Experience with lithium-ion battery manufacturing processes or related technologies.
Familiarity with Lean Six Sigma methodologies and process optimization techniques.
Previous experience in a leadership role or managing engineering projects.
Knowledge of regulatory compliance related to environmental and safety standards in the mining industry.

Skills & tools

Proficient in process simulation and modeling software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HSC Chemistry).
Strong analytical skills with experience in statistical analysis and data interpretation.
Familiarity with laboratory techniques and equipment used in metallurgical testing.
Competence in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for documentation and reporting.
Understanding of CAD software for process design and layout.

Practical notes

This position is based in Delta, British Columbia, and may require occasional travel to other company sites or industry conferences.
