About the role
You will report directly to the VP, Market Development and own the strategic growth agenda for Madison Energy Infrastructure across the U.S. East Markets. In this role, you will design and execute the regional market strategy, driving policy engagement, programmatic work, and M&A origination and structuring. You will act as the primary in-market owner, identifying and incubating partnerships with local and regional developers as well as EPC firms, and positioning Madison Energy Infrastructure as their preferred IPP partner for financing, owning, and operating clean energy infrastructure. You will translate complex market dynamics into actionable commercial strategies, leading high-stakes proposals and negotiations from initial concept through diligence, development, and into operation. This position is ideal for an entrepreneurial dealmaker who combines deep distributed generation renewables expertise with rigorous underwriting and structured negotiation skills. You will build and sustain long-term partnerships that create durable value for both our projects and our partners.

What you'll do
Identify and cultivate new partner relationships while sourcing clean energy projects across onsite and offsite solar and energy storage for acquisition and development.
Serve as Madison Energy Infrastructure's on-the-ground leader and ambassador across the U.S. East, representing the company at industry conferences, panels, and regional and local stakeholder engagements.
Detect emerging and mature market opportunities, shaping commercial direction by delivering clean energy solutions to our growing network of developer and EPC partners and internal Enterprise solutions teams.
Establish and execute MEI's commercial market strategy, building deep offtake and revenue expertise across programs and driving M&A direction through rigorous market and financial analysis.
Act as the in-market expert on evolving policy, programs, and regulations, leading strategic policy and programmatic initiatives that de-risk projects and accelerate execution.
Negotiate commercial terms to secure project exclusivity and advance assets from origination through diligence, development, and toward construction.
Collaborate closely with M&A and Legal teams to close originated deals, ensuring alignment on structure, risk allocation, and commercial integrity.
Partner with Commercial Analysis to validate project underwriting, incorporating granular market knowledge of each asset into financial models and scenario testing.
Own pipeline development and relationship management, maintaining a robust book of business and clearly articulating value propositions to developers and EPC firms.
Translate regional policy and market signals into operational recommendations that optimize project economics and execution timelines.
Coordinate cross-functional workflows, aligning Development, Commercial Analysis, M&A, and Legal around milestones, documentation, and due diligence requirements.
Champion data-driven decision making, using performance metrics and market intelligence to refine strategy and improve project outcomes over time.
Maintain current awareness of technology, regulatory, and competitive trends across the distributed energy landscape to position MEI for long-term advantage.
Communicate progress, risks, and strategic recommendations to senior leadership, ensuring transparency and alignment on portfolio priorities.
Requirements
Hold a Bachelor's degree with experience in economics, finance, engineering, or mathematics preferred.
Bring relevant experience in power markets, power origination, energy infrastructure development, M&A, or investment analysis.
Demonstrate a strong understanding of U.S. East Region wholesale electricity markets, ISO/RTO structures, and distributed generation renewable and dispatchable energy programs.
Show experience modeling or evaluating revenues for renewable and dispatchable energy assets using financial models and scenario analyses.
Have direct experience leading negotiations for acquisitions of renewable and dispatchable energy assets from initial discussions through closing.
Prove experience leading partnerships and relationships with developers and/or Independent Power Producers, generating a book of business and executing on an actionable pipeline.
Exhibit strong judgment, ownership, and accountability for outcomes in a fast-paced, matrixed, and evolving market environment.
Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, translating complex information into clear, actionable insights.
Nice to have
Preferred experience with specific regional programs, tariff structures, and interconnection processes relevant to the U.S. East grid.
Track record of building and managing a proactive business development pipeline with measurable results.
Experience working alongside Legal and Regulatory teams to shape transaction structures and resolve commercial risk.
Practical notes
This is a full-time position based in New York, NY.
Travel may be required within the U.S. East region for meetings, events, and project visits.
