About the role

The EH&S Coordinator II is responsible for establishing and promoting a robust culture of safety within the assigned Industrial Services sites. This role owns the oversight of Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) protocols to ensure strict adherence to both internal company standards and external regulatory requirements. The individual in this position will act as a key liaison between site leadership and the workforce, driving proactive measures to minimize operational risks. They will utilize strong analytical skills to interpret data from audits and incidents, translating findings into actionable improvements. This position is dedicated to reducing workplace accidents and ensuring the highest standards of health and safety are met consistently. The Coordinator will foster teamwork by collaborating closely with various departments to integrate safety into daily operations. Ultimately, this role supports the organization's mission to safeguard the well-being of all employees and protect community infrastructure.

What you'll do

• Conduct comprehensive site assessments to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with all relevant EHS regulations.
• Develop and implement detailed safety procedures and work instructions tailored to specific operational needs of the site.
• Investigate all incidents, near misses, and safety observations to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions.
• Analyze safety performance data and generate reports to track trends and measure the effectiveness of control measures.
• Lead and facilitate regular safety meetings, toolbox talks, and emergency evacuation drills for all personnel on site.
• Inspect personal protective equipment (PPE) usage and ensure the availability of safety supplies throughout the facility.
• Coordinate with external regulatory agencies and manage the timely submission of required documentation and permits.
• Assist with EHS training programs for all employees at the site, including but not limited to emergency response, hazardous material handling, and equipment safety.
• Ensure employees arriving at the site understand and acknowledge safety rules, procedures, and site-specific requirements.
• Monitor contractor activities to verify that safety standards are maintained during all outsourced operations.
• Collaborate with maintenance teams to ensure machinery and safety devices are functioning correctly and safely.
• Support the continuous improvement of the EHS management system by identifying opportunities for process enhancements.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent is required; a Bachelor's degree in Safety, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
• A minimum of two (2) years of relevant EHS experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment is mandatory.
• Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA regulations and other applicable federal, state, and local safety laws.
• Ability to read and interpret safety data sheets (SDS), standard operating procedures (SOPs), and technical documents.
• Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Word, for reporting and data analysis.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills necessary for conducting training and interacting with all levels of staff.
• Capability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Willingness to work scheduled shifts, including occasional overtime to meet operational and audit requirements.
• Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening as part of the employment process.
• Must comply with all company policies, procedures, and safety rules at all times.

Nice to have

• Previous experience working within the construction or heavy industrial sector.
• Certification in OSHA 30-Hour General Industry Outreach or similar safety credentials.
• Familiarity with environmental compliance requirements, such as SPCC and stormwater management.
• Experience with incident investigation methodologies and safety auditing software.

Practical notes

This is a full-time position based onsite in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The role may require occasional travel between sites within the region. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check and drug screening. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship at this time.
