About the role
The , LLC will own the full lifecycle of proposal and estimating activities for industrial mechanical projects, driving accuracy and profitability from initial bid through final closeout. This role owns the development and maintenance of high-quality estimating deliverables, ensuring all proposals are technically sound, competitively priced, and aligned with client expectations and company standards. The position owner will act as a key technical and commercial advisor within the preconstruction team, influencing strategic decisions on bid participation and resource planning. They will leverage deep expertise in mechanical systems to deconstruct complex project requirements into clear, quantifiable cost models. This leader will mentor junior estimators, standardize best practices, and establish robust data capture methodologies that improve estimate quality over time. The role requires proactive risk identification and mitigation, translating technical scopes into comprehensive financial projections that protect margins. Ultimately, the Chief Industrial Mechanical Estimator will be accountable for winning the right work and enabling successful project delivery through precise and insightful estimates.

What you'll do
Track and analyze RFP submissions from initial receipt through evaluation to final client feedback, ensuring comprehensive response coverage.
Develop detailed unit and man-hour estimates by reviewing historical data from purchase orders, subcontracts, previous proposals, and job reports to inform cost and production figures.
Prepare full-scope estimates for small, medium, and large-scale industrial projects, including civil, structural, and mechanical work across energy, mining, power, manufacturing, pulp/paper, agricultural, pharma, and other sectors.
Coordinate attendance at bid meetings and project walkthroughs at diverse client locations to assess scope complexities, access constraints, and required proposal content.
Review and incorporate all instructions, proposal specifications, drawings, and technical data to build a complete and compliant proposal package.
Secure optimal material and subcontracting costs by methodically evaluating multiple quotes and proposals to support competitive pricing strategies.
Provide ongoing project and estimate turnover plus technical support during project implementation to ensure seamless handoff and execution.
Review Field Change Orders for assigned projects and generate updated estimates to reflect scope adjustments and associated impacts.
Maintain meticulous documentation for all estimate figures and assumptions to support auditability, traceability, and future business development.
Collaborate closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and other management stakeholders to refine bids and conduct final evaluation.
Continuously evaluate the proposal and RFP response process to identify efficiencies, reduce cycle times, and improve overall effectiveness.
Track win/loss rates using both the number of estimates submitted and the dollar value of those estimates to inform strategic improvements.
Develop and enhance historical cost and production databases, activity code books, and standardized cost codes to institutionalize estimating knowledge.
Delegate and assist project managers with various estimating tasks and complex RFP responses to ensure timely and accurate delivery.
Drive constant assessment of estimating tools, techniques, and workflows to implement improvements that boost accuracy and efficiency.
Build and support a high-performing estimating team as revenue growth demands, ensuring capacity aligns with business development goals.
Requirements
Minimum of 5+ years of heavy industrial or process facility experience in cost estimating and cost control within the civil, structural, mechanical, or piping disciplines.
Possess strong knowledge of estimating techniques, engineering disciplines, and cost control methodologies relevant to industrial construction.
Demonstrate the ability to estimate all types and sizes of projects, from small modifications to large-scale, multi-discipline facilities.
Show capability to prepare complex proposals that meet detailed specifications and contractual requirements under tight timelines.
Maintain a proven track record of producing accurate, defensible, and competitive estimates that support both commercial and technical objectives.
Exhibit strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills to manage multiple estimate priorities in a fast-paced environment.
