What you'll do
- Oversee the professional development of your engineering team, including hiring, onboarding, and performance management.
- Manage the team's roadmap and ensure timely, high-quality delivery of services and architectural initiatives.
- Maintain service level indicators and objectives, leading incident response and observability standards for production systems.
- Partner with technical leads to make sound architectural decisions for a polyglot stack handling high throughput and multi-chain complexity.
- Champion strong engineering practices, including CI/CD, testing, code reviews, and technical debt management.
- Contribute to broader organizational initiatives, such as architectural working groups and engineering efficiency programs.
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to align technical strategies with business goals and product roadmaps.
- Drive the implementation of monitoring and alerting frameworks to improve system reliability and operational visibility.
- Facilitate technical design discussions and code reviews to uphold code quality and best practices across the team.
- Mentor engineers in functional programming paradigms to leverage the benefits of immutability and pure functions.
- Coordinate with security and compliance teams to ensure systems adhere to industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Lead post-incident reviews to identify root causes and implement preventative measures for future resilience.
- Guide the team in optimizing database schemas and query performance for high-volume transaction processing.
- Support the integration of new tools and frameworks that enhance developer productivity and system maintainability.
Requirements
- At least three years of experience managing backend engineering teams in a product-focused, distributed setting.
- Solid technical background in backend systems, enabling you to challenge architectural decisions and support engineers.
- Experience operating services at scale, with familiarity in high-availability architectures, event-driven systems, and observability tools.
- Comfortable with polyglot stacks, specifically TypeScript and Scala, with sufficient depth to lead effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex dependencies across multiple teams and influence without direct authority.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Proven track record of delivering reliable software in production environments with strict uptime requirements.
- Experience with version control systems, particularly Git, and collaborative development workflows.

This role is based in Montpellier, France, and operates on a hybrid schedule, allowing flexibility between remote work and office presence. The position is full-time and aligned with the standard working hours expected of Ledger teams. While the role is centered in Montpellier, there may be requirements for occasional travel to other company offices for meetings, workshops, or team gatherings. Travel arrangements will be coordinated in advance and will comply with company policies and local regulations. Candidates must be eligible to work in France without sponsorship, as the company is unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position. The role involves participation in cross-timezone collaboration, given the global nature of the organization. Deadlines for performance reviews and career progression discussions will follow the company's standard annual cycle.
