We are seeking a dedicated Founding Recruiter to join our innovative team at LanceDB, where we are developing an open-source data lake tailored for multimodal AI applications. In this position, you will be responsible for crafting and enhancing our entire recruitment process, working closely with leadership to attract and onboard exceptional talent. Your contributions will be instrumental in shaping the recruitment function from its inception, ensuring that we build a strong foundation for our growing team.

What you'll do

• Design and refine the comprehensive hiring process for both technical and non-technical roles, overseeing everything from initial outreach to candidate acceptance.
• Manage and enhance our recruitment platforms and tools, including applicant tracking systems (ATS), sourcing tools, and AI-driven recruiting technologies.
• Ensure a remarkable candidate experience throughout the hiring journey, maintaining a swift and consistent process that embodies our company values.
• Recruit for specialized technical positions, such as systems and database engineers (with a focus on Rust), as well as roles in sales, marketing, and developer relations.
• Collaborate closely with hiring managers to define job specifications, craft engaging job descriptions, and standardize interview processes across departments.
• Analyze recruitment metrics to continuously improve hiring strategies and outcomes, ensuring we attract top-tier talent.
• Foster relationships with candidates, providing them with insights about LanceDB's mission and culture to enhance their interest in joining our team.
• Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in recruitment to keep our processes competitive and effective.
• Participate in strategic planning sessions with leadership to align recruitment goals with overall business objectives.
• Champion diversity and inclusion initiatives within the hiring process to build a diverse and dynamic workforce.
• Mentor and guide junior recruiting team members, sharing best practices and fostering a collaborative team environment.

Requirements

• A minimum of 8 years of experience in recruitment, preferably within a fast-growing startup or a technical organization.
• Proven track record of establishing and standardizing recruitment processes from the ground up, emphasizing operational excellence.
• Hands-on experience managing and enhancing applicant tracking systems (ATS) and AI recruitment tools.
• Demonstrated ability to create and implement innovative talent attraction strategies that successfully secure high-quality candidates for both technical and business roles.
• Commitment to delivering a positive candidate experience while ensuring an efficient and timely hiring process.
• Strong analytical skills, utilizing recruitment data to drive improvements in hiring outcomes.
• Proficiency in recruiting for complex technical roles, such as infrastructure and database engineering, as well as sales and marketing positions.
• Experience in recruiting for a remote-first, distributed workforce.
• Ability to excel in a dynamic startup environment, adapting to changing priorities and challenges.
• Excellent communication skills to effectively articulate LanceDB's vision and values to potential hires.
• Strong stakeholder management, communication, and negotiation skills to facilitate successful hiring outcomes.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with the AI/ML landscape, data infrastructure, or developer tools ecosystem.
• Experience with international or multi-country recruitment processes.
• Understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities in remote hiring.

Skills & tools

• Proficient in using ATS and AI recruiting tools.
• Familiarity with Rust programming language for technical recruitment.
• Strong knowledge of recruitment analytics and metrics.
