Key facts
What you'll do
- Conduct precise land surveys using advanced surveying instruments and technology, including GPS, total stations, and digital levels.
- Analyze survey data to prepare detailed reports and maps that meet regulatory requirements and project specifications.
- Collaborate with project managers and engineers to develop project plans, ensuring alignment with design and construction goals.
- Perform boundary surveys, topographic surveys, and construction staking to support various land development projects.
- Review and interpret legal descriptions, property deeds, and other relevant documentation to ascertain property boundaries and easements.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations governing land surveying practices.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior surveyors and field staff, fostering a collaborative work environment.
- Communicate effectively with clients, stakeholders, and team members to address project needs and resolve any issues that may arise.
- Maintain accurate records of survey data, methodologies, and project progress to ensure transparency and accountability.
- Assist in the preparation of project proposals and bids, contributing to the growth of the company's project portfolio.
- Participate in fieldwork as necessary, ensuring safety protocols are followed and that all surveying equipment is maintained in optimal condition.
- Stay updated on industry trends, technologies, and best practices to continuously improve surveying processes and methodologies.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Land Surveying, Geomatics, or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in land surveying, with a focus on project management and client interaction.
- Valid Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license in California or the ability to obtain one within a specified timeframe.
- Proficiency in using surveying software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar applications for drafting and data analysis.
- Strong understanding of surveying principles, practices, and legal requirements in California.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey technical information clearly to diverse audiences.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is a plus.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to various project sites as needed.
Nice to have
- Experience with drone surveying technology and photogrammetry.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations and sustainable land development practices.
- Previous experience in a leadership or supervisory role within a surveying team.
- Certification as a Certified Survey Technician (CST) or similar professional designation.
- Familiarity with project management software and tools.
