Jhlconstructors is currently seeking a skilled Water/Wastewater Superintendent to join our team and lead infrastructure construction projects in the water and wastewater sector. This full-time position is based in Englewood, Colorado and serves as the primary on-site leader responsible for coordinating all field operations. The superintendent will manage daily construction activities, oversee subcontractors, and ensure that every phase of work aligns with engineering specifications and project timelines. What you'll do

Oversee and direct daily construction activities for water and wastewater infrastructure projects in the field. Coordinate and supervise subcontractors performing excavation, pipe installation, utility connections, and related site work activities. Review construction plans and technical specifications to ensure full compliance with engineering drawings and project requirements. Monitor project schedules closely and adjust field workflows to maintain deadlines and critical milestone deliverables. Conduct regular and thorough safety inspections across all project sites and enforce strict site safety protocols for every crew member. Manage material deliveries, equipment deployment, and resource allocation efficiently across multiple concurrent project phases and work areas. Communicate detailed progress updates and technical findings to project managers, engineers, and other key internal stakeholders on a regular basis. Perform detailed quality control checks on installed pipelines, valves, pumps, and all related infrastructure components throughout the construction process. Maintain accurate and complete field records, daily construction logs, and documentation for ongoing project reporting and regulatory compliance purposes. Resolve on-site issues promptly and coordinate directly with design teams to address unexpected field conditions and necessary scope changes. Lead pre-construction meetings and site walkthroughs to align all teams on project scope, expectations, deliverables, and safety requirements. Ensure that all construction work strictly adheres to local building codes, environmental regulations, and required permitting conditions at every stage. Collaborate with engineering staff to implement design changes and evaluate alternative approaches when field conditions require adjustments or revisions. Track and report project costs, labor hours, and material usage to support accurate budget monitoring and financial forecasting throughout the project lifecycle.

Requirements

A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline is required for this position. A minimum of five years of progressive experience supervising water or wastewater construction projects in the field is expected. Demonstrated and thorough knowledge of municipal water treatment facilities, distribution systems, and sewer system construction methods and industry practices is necessary. Strong familiarity with reading and accurately interpreting engineering drawings, construction plans, and detailed technical specifications on a daily basis. Proven experience managing subcontractors and effectively coordinating multiple skilled work crews on active and complex construction sites is important. Solid understanding of OSHA safety regulations, construction site hazard identification, and prevention best practices for field teams is essential. Must possess a valid driver's license and have the ability to travel to various project sites as required by the project schedule. Excellent written and verbal communication skills for interacting with clients, engineers, regulatory officials, and field personnel on a daily basis. Prior experience working with municipal or public utility clients and understanding their unique project delivery expectations is highly valued. Ability to work independently in a fast-paced construction environment while maintaining attention to detail and consistent quality standards.

Nice to have

Experience with project management software and digital field reporting tools is highly beneficial for this role. Working knowledge of Colorado state and local water infrastructure codes and regulations is valued and considered a strong asset. Previous hands-on work on municipal or public utility construction projects is strongly preferred and will be given serious consideration. Professional certification in construction management or a related technical discipline is considered a plus and may set candidates apart. Familiarity with green infrastructure and sustainable water management practices is a welcomed bonus for qualified applicants. Prior experience managing projects in a design-build or construction management delivery format is viewed favorably by our team.

AutoCAD or comparable computer-aided design software for plan review, markups, and construction document coordination and review. Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word, and Outlook for documentation, reporting, and project correspondence and communication. Procore, PlanGrid, or equivalent construction management and digital project tracking platforms for field operations and team coordination. Working knowledge of hydraulic modeling software and water distribution system analysis tools for engineering calculations and system design. Familiarity with GPS equipment, total stations, and surveying instruments commonly used in civil construction layout and site grading. Proficiency with mobile field data collection applications and digital reporting systems for real-time project updates and status reporting. Experience with project scheduling software such as Primavera or Microsoft Project for timeline management and resource tracking on projects. Understanding of GIS mapping tools and utility location services for underground infrastructure planning and coordination during construction.

Practical notes

This is a full-time position based out of the Englewood, Colorado office and active construction project sites in the region. The role requires regular on-site presence at various construction locations throughout the greater Denver metropolitan area and surrounding regions.
