About the role
As an Estimator for Infrastructure at Bamboohr, you will play a pivotal role in the planning and execution of various construction projects. You will collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure that all estimates are accurate and comprehensive. What you'll do
- Develop detailed cost estimates for infrastructure projects, including materials, labor, and equipment, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Analyze project specifications and drawings to identify potential cost-saving opportunities and value engineering options.
- Collaborate with project managers and engineers to gather necessary information for preparing estimates and to clarify project requirements.
- Prepare and maintain a database of historical costs and pricing to inform future estimates and improve accuracy.
- Conduct site visits to assess project conditions and gather data that will inform the estimating process.
- Review and evaluate bids from subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring they align with project budgets and timelines.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings and presentations to provide insights and clarify estimating processes to stakeholders.
- Monitor project costs during construction to ensure adherence to estimates and identify any variances that may arise.
- Assist in the preparation of bid proposals and presentations for potential clients, showcasing the value and capabilities of Bamboohr.
- Work closely with the procurement team to ensure timely acquisition of materials and services required for projects.
- Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices to enhance estimating processes and methodologies.
- Provide mentorship and training to junior estimators and interns, fostering a collaborative and knowledge-sharing environment.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in estimating for infrastructure projects, with a strong focus on cost analysis and budgeting.
- Proficiency in estimating software and tools, such as Sage Estimating, Bluebeam, or similar applications.
- Solid understanding of construction methods, materials, and legal regulations related to infrastructure projects.
- Excellent analytical and mathematical skills, with a keen attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines.
- Familiarity with project management software and tools is a plus.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to job sites as needed.
Nice to have
- Certification from a recognized estimating organization, such as the American Society of Professional Estimators (ASPE).
- Experience with sustainable construction practices and green building certifications.
- Knowledge of local construction codes and regulations specific to Colorado.
- Previous experience working on large-scale infrastructure projects, such as highways, bridges, or public utilities.
Skills & tools
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD or similar design software for interpreting project drawings.
- Strong organizational skills to manage documentation and project timelines effectively.
- Ability to conduct risk assessments and develop contingency plans for estimating processes.
- Competence in negotiating with subcontractors and suppliers to secure favorable terms.
