About the role
As a , you will be an integral part of our operations team, responsible for the safe and efficient relocation of heavy machinery and equipment. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, leadership skills, and a commitment to safety protocols. You will work closely with a team of riggers and movers, ensuring that all tasks are executed with precision and care. Your contributions will directly impact our project timelines and overall operational efficiency.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Lead and supervise a team of machinery movers and riggers, ensuring adherence to safety standards and operational protocols.
- Plan and execute the rigging and moving of heavy machinery, including but not limited to industrial equipment, generators, and HVAC systems.
- Conduct site assessments to determine the best methods for moving equipment, considering factors such as weight, dimensions, and site conditions.
- Utilize rigging equipment such as slings, shackles, and hoists to safely lift and transport machinery.
- Collaborate with project managers and engineers to develop detailed lift plans and schedules.
- Train and mentor junior riggers and movers, sharing best practices and safety procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment moves, including inventory and condition reports.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any issues that arise during the moving process, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
- Ensure all equipment and tools are in good working order and report any maintenance needs to management.
- Participate in safety meetings and contribute to the continuous improvement of safety practices within the team.
- Communicate effectively with other departments and stakeholders to coordinate logistics and timelines.
- Adhere to all local, state, and federal regulations regarding machinery moving and rigging operations.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in machinery moving and rigging, with a proven track record of successful project execution.
- Strong understanding of rigging techniques, equipment, and safety standards.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documents.
- Valid rigging certification (e.g., NCCCO, CIC) is highly preferred.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a diverse team.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact with team members and stakeholders.
- Physical stamina and strength to perform manual labor and lift heavy objects.
- Familiarity with OSHA regulations and safety practices in the construction and industrial sectors.
Nice to have
- Experience with specialized machinery or equipment, such as cranes or forklifts.
- Knowledge of project management principles and practices.
- Previous experience in a supervisory or leadership role within the rigging or moving industry.
- Additional certifications related to safety or machinery operation.
- Familiarity with industry software for project tracking and reporting.
Skills & tools
- Proficient in the use of rigging tools and equipment, including hoists, cranes, and lifting devices.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
- Competence in using basic hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
- Familiarity with safety equipment such as hard hats, gloves, and harnesses.
Practical notes
- This position may require travel to various job sites, sometimes on short notice.
