The company is currently seeking a Technical Lead to join the IntelliJ Platform team and help deliver features and improvements that redefine productivity.
In this role, you will define core APIs and shape the team's definition of done for both remote development and UI tooling. You will re-architect several core subsystems to satisfy modern requirements, including making settings flexible and portable across machines for remote or dev-provisioned environments. You will organize and implement processes related to the deprecation cycle for the IntelliJ Platform API. Your work will enable remote development scenarios by aligning toolchain and runtime expectations. You will review implementation details to ensure portability and consistency across environments. You will coordinate with downstream teams to align on migration paths and compatibility guarantees. You will shape release practices that keep platform changes stable for millions of developers.

What you'll do
Setting minimal interfaces for external and internal plugins that serve remote workflows.
Guiding subsystem modernization so configuration remains flexible across devices and provisioning contexts.
Drafting documentation that clarifies boundaries for plugin developers and internal teams.
Orchestrating deprecation timelines for public APIs to reduce breakage across the ecosystem.
Enabling remote development scenarios by aligning toolchain and runtime expectations.
Reviewing implementation details to ensure portability and consistency across environments.
Coordinating with downstream teams to align on migration paths and compatibility guarantees.
Shaping release practices that keep platform changes stable for millions of developers.
Requirements
You must have extensive hands-on platform architecture and systems design experience.
You must understand JVM concurrency patterns deeply at scale.
You must know Kotlin coroutines and related concurrency models well.
You must write technical documentation that is clear and precise.
You must think critically with architectural foresight for long term platform health.
You must handle large scale refactoring inside monorepos without disruption.
Nice to have
Experience building developer tools that span multiple runtime contexts.
Familiarity with different UI frameworks and their tradeoffs.
Understanding of database internals and how they affect IDE behavior.
Exposure to network applications and distributed system challenges.
