You will act as the gatekeeper of release stability, ensuring that regressions are caught before they reach our global user base. You will work at the intersection of software engineering and quality assurance, applying your technical skills to solve intricate problems in a high-performance environment. What you'll do
- Design and execute automated test strategies for IntelliJ IDEA Ultimate, focusing on backend development scenarios involving frameworks, HTTP clients, and data persistence tools.
- Develop scalable and maintainable test automation frameworks that operate reliably across Linux, Windows, macOS, Docker, and WSL environments.
- Collaborate closely with developers and product managers to define test coverage for enterprise features such as Spring Boot, Jakarta EE, Quarkus, and Micronaut support.
- Implement domain-specific test extensions that validate the behavior of application servers including Tomcat, WildFly, and Jetty within the IDE.
- Monitor and analyze test execution metrics, including coverage, failure rates, and flakiness, to drive continuous improvements in test reliability.
- Debug and resolve complex test failures, distinguishing between product defects and automation instability to ensure accurate quality signals.
- Partner with QA and development teams to perform release quality assessments and define comprehensive test strategies for new product capabilities.
- Conduct manual validation and exploratory testing to complement automated suites where full automation coverage is not yet feasible.
- Document test processes, procedures, and results to ensure clarity and maintainability for current and future team members.
- Contribute to the broader test ecosystem by integrating CI/CD tools like TeamCity and reporting solutions such as Allure to streamline quality workflows.
Requirements
- Bring proven experience in test automation with the ability to write production-quality code in Kotlin or Java at a professional level.
- Demonstrate strong proficiency in JUnit or TestNG frameworks, along with hands-on experience using build automation tools such as Maven or Gradle.
- Show a solid understanding of software testing principles, methodologies, and best practices in the context of complex desktop and server-side applications.
- Have practical experience with CI/CD pipelines, particularly with TeamCity, and be comfortable using reporting tools like Allure to communicate test results.
- Possess expertise in version control using Git and exhibit strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Be self-motivated, disciplined, and capable of managing independent work while maintaining high standards of quality and attention to detail.
- Thrive in a fast-paced environment where you can manage shifting priorities and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

Nice to have
- Demonstrate previous experience testing developer tools, IDEs, and desktop applications, with a deep understanding of UI and integration testing challenges.
- Show familiarity with JVM-based frameworks such as Spring and Jakarta, as well as common databases and persistence technologies.
