What you'll do

• Analyze project documents, including blueprints, specifications, and other relevant materials to understand project requirements and scope.
• Prepare comprehensive cost estimates for construction projects, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail in all calculations.
• Collaborate with project managers, architects, and engineers to gather necessary information and clarify project specifications.
• Conduct site visits to assess project conditions and gather data that will inform the estimating process.
• Evaluate subcontractor and supplier bids, ensuring that they align with project requirements and budget constraints.
• Develop and maintain a database of historical costs and pricing information to support future estimating efforts.
• Monitor and update estimates throughout the project lifecycle, adjusting for changes in scope, materials, and labor costs.
• Assist in the preparation of bid proposals, ensuring that all necessary documentation is included and presented professionally.
• Provide support during the negotiation phase with clients and subcontractors, offering insights based on your estimates.
• Participate in post-project evaluations to assess the accuracy of estimates and identify areas for improvement in future projects.
• Stay current with industry trends, materials, and pricing to ensure that estimates reflect the latest market conditions.
• Foster strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers to enhance collaboration and communication throughout the estimating process.

Requirements

• A minimum of 3 years of experience in construction estimating or a related field, with a proven track record of successful project estimations.
• A degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.
• Proficiency in estimating software and tools, such as Sage Estimating, Bluebeam, or similar applications.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex project documents and specifications.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively convey estimates and collaborate with team members.
• Detail-oriented mindset with a commitment to accuracy and thoroughness in all aspects of work.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
• Familiarity with local building codes and regulations in the US Virgin Islands is a plus.

Nice to have

• Experience with sustainable building practices and green construction methods.
• Knowledge of project management principles and methodologies.
• Certification from a recognized estimating organization, such as the American Society of Professional Estimators (ASPE).
• Bilingual abilities, particularly in Spanish, to enhance communication with diverse teams and clients.

Skills & tools

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for documentation and reporting purposes.
• Familiarity with project management software, such as Procore or Primavera P6, to track project progress and timelines.
• Strong mathematical skills for accurate calculations and estimations.
• Ability to utilize construction management software for project tracking and collaboration.

• This position is based in the US Virgin Islands, and candidates must be willing to relocate if not currently residing in the area.
