Key facts
What you'll do
- Develop comprehensive cost estimates for a variety of construction projects, including residential, commercial, and infrastructure developments.
- Analyze project plans, specifications, and other documentation to prepare detailed quantity take-offs and cost breakdowns.
- Collaborate with project managers, architects, and engineers to clarify project requirements and ensure accurate estimates.
- Conduct market research to assess material and labor costs, ensuring that estimates reflect current market conditions.
- Prepare and present detailed bid proposals to clients, highlighting the value and benefits of choosing Bamboohr for their projects.
- Monitor project budgets and expenditures, providing ongoing cost analysis and reporting to project teams.
- Identify potential risks and challenges in project execution, offering solutions to mitigate these issues.
- Maintain and update a database of historical cost data to improve the accuracy of future estimates.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits to gain a comprehensive understanding of project scope and requirements.
- Assist in training and mentoring junior estimators and other team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Stay current with industry trends, regulations, and best practices to enhance estimating processes and methodologies.
- Contribute to the development of strategic planning initiatives to improve overall project delivery and client satisfaction.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in construction estimating, with a strong focus on commercial and residential projects.
- Proficiency in estimating software and tools, such as Sage Estimating, Bluebeam, or similar applications.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and processes.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed decisions.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to present estimates and collaborate with diverse teams.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with local building codes and regulations in the US Virgin Islands is a plus.
Nice to have
- Professional certification such as Certified Estimator (CE) or similar credentials.
- Experience with project management software like Procore or Primavera.
- Knowledge of sustainable building practices and materials.
- Previous experience working in the Caribbean or similar environments.
- Bilingual abilities, particularly in Spanish, can be an asset.
