Senior Product Manager, AI
Job description
About the role
You own the end-to-end strategy and execution for agentic AI products that directly impact retailer and CPG profitability by solving critical operational problems. You translate ambiguous business and customer needs into a clear product vision and a ruthless roadmap that balances innovation with reliability. You are the primary voice of the customer and the accountable owner of the business results your products deliver. You will define what success looks like for AI agents in the wild and drive their adoption across retail operations. You partner deeply with technical and commercial teams to ensure solutions are feasible, scalable, and valuable. You are comfortable making decisions in ambiguity while grounding choices in data, user research, and cross-functional input.
Key facts
What you'll do
Define and own the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for agentic AI solutions aimed at reducing out-of-stocks, shrink, waste, and improving fulfillment utilization for retailers and CPGs.
Work backwards from customer outcomes to write crisp problem statements, PRDs, and success metrics; prioritize ruthlessly to deliver a v0, iterate to a v1, and scale proven features.
Partner with engineering and data science to scope experiments, manage backlogs, define KPIs and evaluation frameworks, and ensure models and agents are reliable, safe, and observable in production.
Lead discovery with enterprise customers; design pilots and proof points; collaborate with sales and marketing on go-to-market, pricing and packaging, enablement, and compelling case studies that drive revenue.
Own the business case for your products, including modeling unit economics and ROI, setting financial targets for margin recovery and efficiency gains, and reporting performance to executives and external stakeholders.
Ensure data readiness and integrity by assessing data quality, telemetry, integrations, and feedback loops; implement human-in-the-loop and policy guardrails where appropriate to manage risk.
Operate cross-functionally with data engineering, retailer success, enterprise sales, and business development to bring products from concept to launch and expansion, navigating dependencies and removing blockers.
Define and track end-to-end metrics that reflect real business impact, aligning incentives across product, data, and commercial teams.
Champion a culture of experimentation and evidence-based decision-making, using qualitative and quantitative insights to continuously refine product experiences.
Communicate product rationale and trade-offs clearly and persuasively to diverse audiences, from technical partners to executive stakeholders.
Contribute to the development of best practices, playbooks, and standards for AI product development within the Instacart ecosystem.
Maintain a customer-obsessed mindset, ensuring that every product decision is rooted in delivering meaningful value to the retailers and partners we serve.
Requirements
6+ years of product management experience building B2B or enterprise software, including 3+ years delivering AI/ML-powered products from concept through GA.
Proven record shipping at least 2 AI/ML products used by enterprise customers with measurable financial outcomes such as margin improvement, cost reduction, or productivity gains.
Hands-on data proficiency, including the ability to query or analyze large datasets using SQL or equivalent, and evaluate data quality, model performance, and signal reliability.
Experience leading cross-functional product development efforts in ambiguous environments, balancing competing priorities and making timely decisions.
Strong written and verbal communication skills to articulate complex concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders and influence without direct authority.
Comfortability working with and interpreting data from complex, distributed systems in a cloud-native environment.
Understanding of AI/ML lifecycle, including model evaluation, monitoring, and the implications of model drift and feedback loops for product performance.
Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize a backlog of work across multiple stakeholders and timelines while maintaining a clear focus on business outcomes.
Nice to have
Experience in retail, CPG, or supply chain domains with exposure to operational workflows such as fulfillment, inventory, and logistics.
Background in agentic AI systems, including prompt engineering, tool-calling patterns, and evaluation frameworks for autonomous agents.
Experience building metrics-driven GTM motions and aligning product KPIs with commercial and financial targets.
Familiarity with Instacart's product suite and the broader grocery ecosystem, including how shoppers and platform operations intersect.
Practical notes
Full-time position based in Canada with remote flexibility in Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, or Nova Scotia.
Employment is contingent on successful completion of applicable background checks and verification of credentials.
