About the role
You will own the financial backbone of retailer partnerships from initial scoping through long-term portfolio performance. This role requires you to translate ambiguous business strategy into rigorous, data-backed financial frameworks that guide high-stakes decisions. You will act as a financial partner embedded within Retail Partnerships, Deal Desk, and Operations, ensuring every deal aligns with our unit economics and growth objectives. You will design scenario and sensitivity analyses to test the resilience of each partnership under varying market conditions. You will distill highly technical modeling outputs into clear, executive-ready narratives that influence leadership action. Ultimately, you will ensure our retailer deals drive sustainable value for both Instacart and our partners through disciplined analysis and proactive governance.

What you'll do
Analyze end-to-end financial implications of retailer partnerships, including pricing structures, promotional incentives, and margin impact across diverse retail categories.
Partner with Retail Partnerships and Deal Desk to structure offers that balance customer value with sustainable unit economics, using trade-off frameworks to guide negotiations.
Develop driver-based forecasts and portfolio dashboards that provide visibility into key performance indicators and variance against plan.
Standardize financial templates, playbooks, and approval workflows to streamline due diligence and post-close management for complex deals.
Synthesize analytical findings into concise executive materials, including models, memos, and presentations that drive timely, high-quality decisions.
Collaborate with Data Science to validate assumptions, integrate robust datasets, and ensure analytical accuracy across large-scale, multi-tenant environments.
Work closely with Accounting and Revenue Operations to confirm revenue recognition policies, compliance, and accurate booking of partnership transactions.
Engage with Legal teams to assess contractual terms, ensuring financial structures are enforceable and aligned with risk appetite.
Support cross-functional prioritization by quantifying the opportunity cost and strategic fit of competing retailer proposals.
Establish governance practices that monitor partnership health, enabling proactive course correction and continuous improvement.
Translate evolving business requirements into financial models that are both technically sound and easily maintained by cross-functional stakeholders.
Requirements
4+ years of professional experience in Strategic Finance, FP&A, Investment Banking, Private Equity, or Management Consulting focused on commercial deals within technology, e-commerce, marketplace, logistics, or retail environments.
Possess a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business, or a closely related quantitative discipline, or equivalent hands-on experience.
Demonstrate advanced proficiency in Excel and Google Sheets, including complex financial modeling, cohort and retention analysis, and scenario/sensitivity testing.
Have practical experience writing SQL queries to perform self-serve analysis and to validate data integrity across large datasets.
Show strong ownership orientation, comfort with ambiguity, and the ability to manage multiple high-priority initiatives in a fast-paced, dynamic setting.
Communicate clearly and persuasively, both in writing and verbally, with the ability to simplify complex topics for executive audiences.
Collaborate effectively with cross-functional partners, including data scientists, legal, operations, and finance colleagues, to ensure alignment and execution.
Understand the importance of process, documentation, and controls in a regulated, high-growth environment.
Nice to have
Experience with marketplace or gig-economy business models and familiarity with retail operations would be advantageous.
Background in managing portfolio-level performance for a book of business or partnership agreements.
Practical knowledge of data visualization tools such as Tableau or similar platforms to build interactive dashboards.
