Senior UI/UX Designer
Job description
About the role
Hyperhug is actively searching for a highly skilled Senior UI/UX Designer to spearhead the creation of engaging, intuitive, and visually compelling user interfaces for our critically acclaimed mobile survival shooter game, Oxide: Survival Island. In this pivotal role, you will own the end-to-end design process, transforming complex game concepts into functional, aesthetically pleasing, and high-performance interfaces that directly elevate the player experience. You will act as a core member of the development team, working in close collaboration to implement UI solutions directly within the Unity engine, ensuring seamless integration, optimal usability, and a consistent vision from concept to execution. The ideal candidate will bring a deep passion for mobile gaming and a proven track record in game UI/UX design, particularly within live-service environments. You will be instrumental in designing monetization and live-ops features that not only look great but also strategically maximize player engagement and long-term revenue. Your work will define the player's visual and interactive language across the entire game, making complex systems feel accessible, intuitive, and immersive.
Key facts
What you'll do
Lead the discovery and conceptualization phase for new UI features, conducting user research and translating abstract game design documents into concrete, user-centered interface flows.
Architect the information architecture and interaction design for the entire game, from core HUD elements and complex menus to intricate inventory systems and deep progression screens.
Design and prototype intricate interface systems within Figma, creating detailed components, style guides, and high-fidelity prototypes that clearly communicate intent and interaction logic.
Independently assemble, configure, and optimize complete user interfaces directly inside the Unity engine, leveraging its UI Toolkit or other native systems to ensure pixel-perfect implementation.
Collaborate closely with engineering and design partners to ensure UI elements correctly interact with underlying game data, state changes, animations, visual effects, and complex event triggers.
Implement responsive and adaptive UI layouts that function flawlessly across a wide range of mobile device specifications, respecting strict performance and technical constraints.
Utilize AI coding tools to accelerate UI prototyping, automate repetitive tasks, and assist in the implementation of design systems, demonstrating agility with modern technological workflows.
Develop and maintain comprehensive design systems and component libraries in Figma, ensuring consistency, scalability, and efficiency across all current and future game interfaces.
Champion usability through rigorous playtesting sessions, gathering qualitative and quantitative feedback to iterate and refine interfaces for maximum clarity and player satisfaction.
Articulate design rationale and decisions with precision to cross-functional teams, including developers, producers, and artists, ensuring alignment and shared understanding of the product vision.
Take ownership of the visual language and aesthetic direction of the UI, crafting visually expressive interfaces that reinforce the game's core themes and enhance immersion.
Proactively identify and solve complex UI/UX problems, balancing creative design ambitions with the practical limitations of mobile platforms and live-service requirements.
Contribute to the strategic planning of monetization interfaces, ensuring they are integrated in a way that feels native to the experience and supports healthy player spending.
Mentor junior designers on the team, providing guidance on game-specific UI best practices, design standards, and effective collaboration methods within an agile workflow.
Stay current with the latest trends, tools, and methodologies in game UI/UX design, continuously bringing new ideas and techniques back to the project to drive innovation.
Requirements
Possess over 5 years of professional UI/UX design experience, with a significant and demonstrable focus on game development, particularly on mobile platforms and complex interface systems.
Maintain a strong portfolio that prominently features complex game interface systems, including interactive menus, HUDs, and monetization screens, rather than solely isolated visual concepts or non-game work.
Demonstrate hands-on experience with Unity and its robust UI development ecosystem, including deep knowledge of layout management, animation systems, and scripting integration for UI elements.
Prove the ability to independently assemble, configure, and optimize user interfaces within Unity, ensuring they are not only functional and visually appealing but also performant on target devices.
Show a deep understanding of how UI elements interact with diverse game events, runtime data, application states, animations, and visual effects, and the capability to implement these interactions effectively.
Show experience using AI coding tools for UI prototyping, automation, or implementation, highlighting adaptability to new technologies and workflows in a fast-paced environment.
Exhibit advanced proficiency in Figma, with the ability to create highly detailed prototypes, comprehensive style guides, and scalable UI component systems.
Possess strong knowledge of fundamental game UX principles, sophisticated information architecture, player psychology, and interface flow, all specifically tailored to the demands of mobile gaming.
Bring experience designing across multiple interconnected systems such as core gameplay, meta-game progression, and monetization frameworks, ensuring UI cohesively supports player engagement and revenue strategies.
Create visually expressive interfaces that are meticulously designed to adhere to technical limitations and performance constraints inherent to a wide variety of mobile devices.
Communicate design ideas with exceptional clarity and precision, effectively articulating design choices and rationale to technical and non-technical stakeholders alike.
Operate effectively as a self-motivated individual, capable of working autonomously with minimal oversight while expertly managing multiple high-priority tasks and deadlines.
Thrive within agile development processes and collaborative team workflows, demonstrating flexibility and a proactive attitude within a dynamic game development environment.
