AI Enablement & Field Intelligence Lead (AEC)
Job description
About the role
You own the deep integration of field intelligence and emerging technology within large design-build construction environments. You will travel extensively to active jobsites to observe and document how project engineers and project managers execute complex work across healthcare, industrial, data center, and commercial project types. You will synthesize those observations into actionable briefs that directly shape venture studio priorities and product development at Human Agency. You will maintain a current, comprehensive understanding of the construction technology landscape and evaluate each tool against real field workflows. You will coach jobsite teams on AI-assisted workflows, translating technical capabilities into practical, role-specific outcomes. You will build credibility and trust with construction professionals by demonstrating deep respect for how work actually gets done. Your perspective will determine which technologies are pursued, adopted, and scaled within our design-build partners' organizations.
Key facts
What you'll do
Conduct structured job shadows of Project Engineers, Project Managers, and superintendents across project types to map how work actually flows day-to-day and where the friction, waste, and brilliance live.
Extract and codify expert knowledge from experienced construction professionals, capturing institutional intelligence that is currently undocumented and transforming it into a strategic asset for Human Agency.
Synthesize field observations into actionable briefs for Human Agency's venture studio and product teams, directly informing what to build, what to invest in, and where the biggest opportunities exist.
Build and maintain a living knowledge base of construction workflows, pain points, and technology gaps across our design-build partners' project portfolios.
Identify systemic patterns across jobsites and project types that point to high-leverage opportunities for technology intervention or process improvement.
Maintain comprehensive, current knowledge of the construction technology landscape, including platforms, startups, and emerging capabilities, and communicate their potential relevance to field realities.
Evaluate emerging technologies such as Bedrock Robotics, reality capture tools, AI co-pilots for estimating and scheduling, and next-generation project management platforms against actual jobsite needs observed during field visits.
Develop technology fit assessments that determine where a given tool could create real value in the field versus where it would remain shelfware, grounding every recommendation in practitioner experience.
Brief Human Agency and client leadership on contech trends, investment-worthy companies, and technology bets with a practitioner's perspective rather than a vendor's pitch.
Contribute directly to Human Agency's venture studio thesis by articulating where the AEC industry is heading and which technology gaps represent genuine opportunities for intervention.
Lead hands-on coaching sessions, including 1:1 guidance, small group workshops, and lunch-and-learn formats, translating AI capabilities into construction language that project teams can apply immediately.
Help jobsite teams understand and adopt AI-assisted workflows built for submittals, change orders, RFP assessment, meeting synthesis, quality knowledge, and other critical processes.
Identify adoption barriers, user friction, and workflow mismatches during field engagements and relay these insights back to the product team to drive iterative improvement.
Serve as the credible, trusted voice on AI and technology for field teams by earning respect through demonstrated understanding of their work rather than through presentation alone.
Customize AI solutions in collaboration with product teams based on the specific roles, project types, and pain points observed in the field.
Requirements
Construction industry experience of three or more years with time spent on or around active jobsites, including familiarity with what a three-week lookahead entails, exposure to a Project Engineer's actual day, and understanding of the difference between theoretical and real-world workflows. Backgrounds in project engineering, project management, field operations, or construction technology are expected.
Deep, current fluency with the construction technology landscape, including the ability to name key players, platforms, funding trends, and emerging capabilities, and to articulate a point of view on where the industry is heading.
AI literacy that extends beyond basic use of ChatGPT, including demonstrated experience building workflows, automating processes, and showing how AI tools alter the way people work so that you can teach these concepts to others.
Exceptional communication skills that allow you to hold credible conversations with a superintendent on a jobsite at 6am and later brief a C-suite audience on technology strategy at 2pm.
Comfort with heavy travel, including frequent trips at various times of day and night, as this role requires 60-80% travel to jobsites across the country.
Natural credibility with construction professionals, earned through understanding the work deeply rather than through prior titles or credentials alone.
Nice to have
Direct experience with construction technology platforms such as Procore, PMWeb, OpenSpace, Bluebeam, BIM tools, or similar systems, either as a power user, implementer, or builder.
A background in construction technology or AEC innovation, whether gained at a startup, within a general contractor's operations or innovation team, or at a technology consultancy serving the industry.
Experience in technology evaluation, venture analysis, or strategic advisory roles where your judgment on whether a solution will work in practice was the primary deliverable.
Familiarity with how AI products are built and how field insights and user research translate into product decisions and roadmaps.
Comfort operating within a consulting structure as a Human Agency team member embedded in a client's organization and culture.
