As a Companion at Hope Services, you will own the mission of supporting adults with developmental disabilities in building relationships and experiences within their homes and communities, working independently within a small team to inspire and include them in all aspects of life. What you'll do
Perform supportive services in the home, neighborhood, and home community of the consumer to promote their integration and participation.
Provide companionship and friendship to adults with developmental disabilities to enhance their social and emotional well-being.
Assist in the development and expansion of consumer participation in leisure activities to foster personal growth and community inclusion.
Ensure the integration of consumers into community activities, events, and services to build a sense of belonging and connection.
Assure a safe environment by providing protective supervision, advocacy, and vigilance to safeguard the well-being of the consumer.
Assist in the development of a circle of support by building and maintaining strong relationships with family, friends, and neighbors.
Provide daily living skills training and support to help consumers maintain positive health and a healthy home environment.
Provide transportation to consumers using public transportation, own car, or as needed to facilitate access to activities and services.
Communicate all consumer-related information to appropriate staff in a timely manner to ensure continuity of care and collaborative support.
Act as a mandated abuse reporter to uphold safety protocols and protect the rights and dignity of the consumer.
May perform other duties as assigned to assure quality services to the consumer and meet organizational standards.
Support the achievement of personal goals set by the consumer within their home and community settings.
Participate in team meetings and collaborate with supervisors to align strategies that best serve the needs of the consumers.
Assist in maintaining accurate records and documentation relevant to the services provided to the consumer.
Demonstrate flexibility in scheduling and availability to accommodate the varying needs of consumers and the organization.
Requirements
The Companion should possess a high school diploma, GED or equivalent, plus related experience working with people with disabilities in a rehabilitation environment, or approved combination of experience and education.
Possession of a valid California driver's license is required, along with a clear driving record and auto insurance to ensure safe transportation.
Completion and clearance of fingerprints for a DOJ criminal background check are mandatory prior to employment.
The ability to perform essential job functions is required, with reasonable accommodations available for individuals with disabilities.
Candidates must be willing to travel in the consumer's home neighborhood to provide physical and emotional support during community-based activities.
Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, dust, and pollens is an inherent part of the role.
Performing personal care tasks in the consumer's home is a responsibility, including the use of typical home appliances and special assistive equipment as needed by the supported consumer.

Practical notes
The compensation offered is up to $20.50 per hour, with the rate being commensurate with experience and qualifications as outlined in the role.
This engagement is available in both part-time and full-time options to provide flexibility for candidates.
Travel within the consumer's home neighborhood is required to ensure effective support in community settings.
Exposure to typical outdoor elements and household environments is expected as part of performing essential job functions.
