Senior Associate, Strategic Finance
Job description
About the role
The role is a foundational position within a newly forming Strategic Finance function at a company that recently raised $150M in a Series D round and has surpassed $100M in annual recurring revenue. You will be responsible for developing and expanding the driver-based operating model that underpins all financial planning and analysis. A core part of this position involves owning the monthly and quarterly operating rhythms, including the reforecast and planning cycles, where you will explain the reasons behind changes in financial numbers rather than merely reporting on them. Because the team is small, you will be expected to wear multiple hats and gain visibility into the entire business, handling tasks from headcount modeling to analyzing gross margin movements. You will build the analysis used for board and executive reporting, covering key metrics such as ARR, cash position, headcount, and pipeline performance. This is an opportunity for someone who wants significant surface area and responsibility, allowing them to learn how a company scales from the inside out while growing alongside the finance function. You will work directly with the Head of Strategic Finance, the CFO, and leaders across GTM, Product, and Accounting to ensure financial alignment and rigor.
Key facts
What you'll do
Manage and build out our driver-based operating model, expanding it as the business gets more complex and keeping it accurate and decision-ready.
Run the monthly and quarterly operating rhythm and the reforecast cycle: the calendar, the inputs, budget versus actuals, and variance analysis, explaining why the numbers moved.
Support headcount planning and the monthly refresh, collaborating with People and team leaders to connect hiring decisions directly to budget constraints and forecasts.
Build the analysis behind board and executive reporting, including scorecards, ARR, cash, headcount, pipeline, and the detailed supporting information required for oversight.
Bring rigor to our SaaS metrics such as ARR, NRR and GRR, magic number, CAC payback, and LTV to CAC, ensuring they are consistent and defensible across the organization.
Partner with Accounting, RevOps, and our Data team to dig into the data and extract insights that drive critical decisions across the organization.
Jump into ad hoc analysis as needed, covering areas such as pricing, segment economics, and scenario work to address whatever the business needs within a given quarter.
Requirements
Roughly 3 to 5 years of experience starting in investment banking, private equity, or restructuring, ideally with a year or two in an operating seat in strategic finance, FP&A, or business finance at a high-growth company.
Demonstrate excellent financial modeling capabilities, particularly with driver-based models, cohort analysis, scenario work, and a high bar for accuracy and detail.
Show expert proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets, leveraging these tools to build sophisticated models and analyses.
Exhibit a strong sense of curiosity about how a business operates, paired with the judgment to identify which specific number truly matters for a given decision.
Communicate clearly and concisely, with the ability to explain complex analysis in plain language to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Operate with high ownership and low ego, remaining comfortable with ambiguity and proactively building solutions without waiting to be told what to do.
Engage directly with data, showing comfort in self-serve environments and a willingness to utilize modern warehouse and BI stack tools such as Snowflake and Omni.
Nice to have
Possess prior time inside a high-growth software company, particularly on a small finance team where you owned a wide range of responsibilities and had significant impact.
Demonstrate familiarity with SaaS metrics and unit economics, including how these metrics influence business strategy and performance.
Have exposure to AI or usage-based COGS and consumption economics, and understand how these elements affect gross margin and financial planning.
Have experience partnering directly with a GTM or product organization to influence spend and resource-allocation decisions through data-driven insights.
Practical notes
This role is remote-based in North America and requires a base salary within the specified range. Equity compensation is provided in the form of ISO options with specific exercise windows. The position involves significant interaction with executive leadership and cross-functional partners.
