We are on the lookout for an enthusiastic intern to assist in the development and documentation of automation systems for our pilot production line and laboratory. Key facts
What you'll do
- Participate in the assembly of control panels, including the construction of enclosures and mounting brackets, while assisting with the mechanical installation of automation equipment.
- Identify, source, and install a variety of sensors and field devices, ensuring that all necessary cabling and labeling meet production requirements.
- Aid in the programming of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs) under the guidance of experienced engineers, following established naming conventions and documentation practices.
- Analyze and annotate electrical schematics, utilizing presentation and spreadsheet software to clearly define project scope and objectives.
- Play a role in the development of standard operating procedures for both the pilot production line and laboratory equipment, ensuring consistency and quality.
- Keep track of project timelines and deliver progress reports to relevant stakeholders, ensuring transparency and communication throughout the project lifecycle.
- Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot and resolve issues that arise during the automation process, fostering a team-oriented environment.
- Engage in continuous learning about automation technologies and industry best practices to enhance personal and team performance.
Requirements
- Must demonstrate a well-organized and methodical approach to tasks, with a strong emphasis on thorough documentation practices.
- Should possess a proactive mindset, actively seeking the best solutions prior to commencing construction rather than relying solely on independent work.
- Ability to adhere to and build upon existing engineering standards, rather than initiating new standards from scratch.
- Basic understanding of electrical and control systems principles, including knowledge of sensor functionality, digital and analog inputs/outputs, and essential wiring techniques.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively collaborate with team members and document processes.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and methodologies in the field of automation and controls engineering.
Nice to have
- Previous experience in sheet metal fabrication or working in a workshop environment would be advantageous.
- Familiarity with PLC and HMI programming, particularly in basic sensor logic or ladder logic, is a plus.
- Background in creating electrical or mechanical schematics, which can enhance the ability to contribute to project documentation.
- Experience in sourcing industrial components from suppliers, such as AutomationDirect, to support project needs.
- Exposure to HTTP/REST and other software application programming interfaces, which may aid in integrating automation systems with software solutions.
Skills & tools
- Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel for presentations and data management.
- Knowledge of PLC and HMI programming techniques.
- Understanding of electrical schematics and the ability to interpret them accurately.
- Familiarity with various sensors and their applications in automation.
- Basic knowledge of digital and analog input/output systems and wiring fundamentals.
- Understanding of HTTP/REST and software APIs to facilitate integration with automation systems.
