Product Designer, Design Systems
Job description
About the role
At Harvey, we are actively transforming how legal and professional services operate by fusing frontier agentic AI with an enterprise-grade platform and deep domain expertise. This initiative is reshaping critical knowledge work for decades to come. Joining Harvey means joining a company with strong product-market fit and world-class investor support that is scaling fast while defining a new category in real time. The work is ambitious, the bar is high, and the opportunity for personal, professional, and financial growth is unmatched. Our team moves fast, takes ownership, and operates with intensity, staying close to our customers and pushing each other for excellence. We live by three core values: Decisiveness, Simplicity, and Job's Not Finished. We act quickly on clear judgment over perfect information, we believe simplicity is what scales, and we are never satisfied with where we are. If you want to do the best work of your career alongside people who share that drive, we are building with you. At Harvey, the future of professional services is being written today, and we are just getting started. For this role, located in Toronto, we offer full-time engagement.
What you'll do
As a Product Designer on the Design Systems team, you will define the foundations that make Harvey's product coherent, scalable, and trustworthy as complexity grows. You own the design system as a living source of truth that aligns design, engineering, and AI workflows. This role demands precision, consistency, and execution as a hands-on builder and trusted partner. You will craft, maintain, and scale components, patterns, documentation, and system assets that power every interaction, ensuring that consistency, quality, and confidence scale alongside product complexity. You will shape not only the system itself but also the processes and workflows that enable the team to operate at scale. You will translate ambiguous product opportunities into coherent design system solutions that balance user needs with technical constraints. You will rigorously audit existing interfaces to identify inconsistencies and define the ideal target state for the system. You will partner closely with engineers to translate design intent into robust, reusable patterns that perform well in production. You will contribute to the long-term strategy of the design system by defining architecture principles and evolution pathways.
- Build, maintain, and evolve production-ready design system components, patterns, documentation, and reusable assets across Figma and emerging AI-native design workflows.
- Partner with the Senior Design Systems Designer to scale Harvey's visual language and support the rollout of new system foundations across the product.
- Collaborate with product designers and frontend engineers to ensure system components are intuitive to use, accurately implemented, and consistently adopted.
- Own and create polished production assets, libraries, prototypes, and documentation that enable teams to build quickly and with confidence.
- Support AI-assisted design workflows by preparing components, documentation, and system assets that are optimized for both designers and AI tools.
- Maintain the quality and health of the design system through QA, organization, continuous refinement, and operational improvements.
- Advocate for exceptional craftsmanship, consistency, and usability across every product surface.
- Identify friction points in designer and engineer workflows and propose system solutions that streamline production and reduce ambiguity.
- Contribute to architectural decisions that impact how components scale, adapt, and perform across different contexts and products.
- Translate complex product requirements into clear system definitions, ensuring alignment across design, engineering, and product stakeholders.
- Mentor other designers on best practices for using and contributing to the design system.
- Measure the effectiveness of the design system through adoption metrics, qualitative feedback, and usability testing.
- Participate in design critiques and code reviews to ensure system integrity and continuous improvement.
- Stay current with industry trends, tooling, and research in design systems and AI-assisted design practices.
Requirements
- 3-5 years of experience as a Product Designer, Production Designer, UI Designer, or Design Systems Designer working on digital products.
- Exceptional visual craft with a meticulous eye for detail, layout, spacing, consistency, and production quality.
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple workstreams while maintaining a high quality bar.
- Experience building and maintaining component libraries and design systems in Figma, including auto layout, variables, components, and variants.
- Curiosity and experience in AI-assisted design tools and evolving implementation workflows; you do not need to be an engineer, but you are excited about where the discipline is heading.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with a desire to learn through close partnership with design and engineering.
- Comfort working in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment and enthusiasm for helping shape an evolving Design Systems practice.
- Demonstrated ability to balance long-term system thinking with urgent product delivery demands.
