Sales Development Representative, AI-Native
Job description
About the role
You will be the first voice of Harper for high-growth commercial insurance buyers, owning end-to-end top-of-funnel execution entirely in the AI-native era. You will direct AI agents, automate your own workflows, and apply sharp human judgment exactly where machines stall or need guardrails. You will own both outbound volume and inbound responsiveness, turning cold contacts into booked meetings while warming and transferring AI-stalled leads to AEs. This role is a deliberate first step into a sales and go-to-market career inside a company that is rebuilding commercial insurance as software. You will work on-site in San Francisco, logging long in-person days with very high standards and fast feedback loops. The position blends sales, data, and product intuition as you feed insights back into product and positioning. You are expected to move at startup speed while building repeatable, scalable infrastructure for growth.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Run outbound at serious volume, making cold calls, running email sequences built with marketing, and following up persistently; you are the first voice of Harper.
- Complete intake on every call, learning what a business does and what risk it carries, capturing all details in minutes, not hours.
- Build with AI, not just alongside it, using AI agents to automate your own sequencing, data entry, and reporting so every automated workflow becomes permanent Harper infrastructure.
- Partner with marketing as the human in the loop, feeding back which messages land on calls, which ad-sourced leads convert, and which segments respond best.
- Hit both volume and quality targets, measured by new leads brought in, lead conversion, completed applications, and AE transfers, balancing speed with accuracy.
- Own inbound pipeline by working a power dialer of warm leads our AI agents could not reach, completing live intake applications on the phone.
- Warm up quoted leads and transfer them to the account executive team, ensuring smooth handoffs and maintained momentum.
Requirements
- An ambitious and personable recent grad or early-career candidate excited to launch a career in GTM sales.
- Eager to join the sales team at a hyper-growth AI startup disrupting the insurance industry.
- Someone who has worked a high-volume phone role and was good at it, or who hasn't but has credible evidence that everyone who knows you is sure you would be.
- Unshakable in the face of rejection, maintaining rhythm and energy regardless of outcome.
- Energized by talking to people all day, sustaining the same enthusiasm on call 50 as on call 1.
- Instinctive in reaching for AI tools, automating repetitive tasks the moment you recognize a pattern.
- Self-driven without hand-holding, needing only a shot and clear expectations to deliver.
- Based in San Francisco, able to work on-site, full-time, during the stated schedule.
- Fluent in operating inside fast-paced, demanding environments, even as a new grad.
- Capable of strong multitasking, talking, listening, and logging details simultaneously.
- Professional, confident, and clear on the phone in every interaction.
Nice to have
- Background in insurance, fintech, or financial-services roles.
- Bilingual skills that expand reach into additional customer segments.
- Prior SDR or BDR experience in high-volume SaaS or AI companies.
- Outbound or customer-success-focused experience that demonstrates repeatable methods.
Practical notes
- This is a high-volume outbound role, on-site in San Francisco, Monday through Friday, 8am to 8pm ET.
- The schedule assumes in-person presence in the building with the team during these hours.
- The role is full-time and requires consistent on-site attendance.
- The process is intentionally tight and fast, designed to mirror how Harper operates.
- Compensation details were not provided in the source material.
- No visa or travel specifics were stated beyond the on-site requirement in San Francisco.
- No explicit application deadline was published in the source.
You will spend your days sourcing new business owners from enriched public data, running campaigns at volumes that were not possible three years ago, and converting cold contacts into real opportunities through disciplined outreach. At the same time, you will manage an inbound pipeline, handling power-dialer conversations with warm leads that AI agents could not reach and completing live intake applications during calls. You will build permanent infrastructure by automating your own workflows, turning repetitive sequences into reusable systems that scale across the organization. Collaboration with marketing will be constant, as you provide real-time feedback on messaging, channel performance, and segment responsiveness. Your performance will be judged by both quantity and quality, requiring you to balance rapid outreach with meticulous data capture and accurate opportunity handoffs. This role is designed for those who see their first sales position as a long-term track, using Harper as a platform to grow into broader go-to-market responsibilities over time. If you thrive in fast-paced, high-expectation environments and want to help define the future of AI-native commercial insurance sales, this position offers a direct path to do exactly that.
