What you'll do
- Develop comprehensive cost estimates for various construction projects, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
- Analyze project plans, specifications, and other documents to identify potential cost-saving opportunities and risks.
- Collaborate with project managers and design teams to provide input during the design phase, ensuring that estimates align with project goals.
- Prepare detailed bid proposals and presentations for clients, showcasing the value and feasibility of proposed projects.
- Maintain and update a database of historical cost data to inform future estimates and improve accuracy.
- Conduct site visits to assess conditions and gather relevant information that may impact project costs.
- Communicate effectively with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain pricing and ensure that estimates reflect current market conditions.
- Review and evaluate bids from subcontractors, ensuring compliance with project specifications and budget constraints.
- Assist in the development of project schedules, integrating cost estimates with timelines to provide a comprehensive overview of project feasibility.
- Participate in project meetings and provide insights on cost-related issues, helping to guide decision-making throughout the project lifecycle.
- Monitor project budgets during the construction phase, identifying variances and recommending corrective actions as necessary.
- Stay current with industry trends, materials, and technologies to enhance estimating practices and maintain competitiveness in the market.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in construction estimating or a similar role.
- Proficient in estimating software and tools, such as Sage Estimating, Bluebeam, or similar applications.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and processes.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed decisions.
- Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively convey information to various stakeholders.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while also being self-motivated.
- Familiarity with local building codes, regulations, and industry standards.
Nice to have
- Certification from a recognized estimating organization, such as the American Society of Professional Estimators (ASPE).
- Experience with project management software, such as Procore or Microsoft Project.
- Knowledge of sustainable building practices and green construction methods.
- Previous experience in a specific sector, such as commercial, residential, or industrial construction.
- Bilingual abilities, particularly in Spanish, to communicate with a diverse workforce and clientele.
Skills & tools
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel for data analysis and reporting.
- Familiarity with construction management software and project scheduling tools.
- Strong mathematical skills for accurate calculations and estimations.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Knowledge of cost control and budgeting techniques in construction projects.
