What you'll do
- Conduct thorough risk assessments for medical insurance applications, analyzing various factors such as medical history, treatment plans, and potential liabilities.
- Collaborate closely with medical professionals and clients to gather necessary information and clarify any uncertainties regarding applications.
- Utilize advanced underwriting software and tools to streamline the evaluation process and ensure accuracy in decision-making.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers and agents to facilitate smooth communication and enhance client satisfaction.
- Prepare detailed reports and documentation to support underwriting decisions, ensuring compliance with industry regulations and company policies.
- Monitor and review existing policies to identify any necessary adjustments based on changes in risk profiles or market conditions.
- Participate in training sessions and workshops to stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in underwriting.
- Work collaboratively with claims and risk management teams to address any issues that arise during the policy lifecycle.
- Provide expert guidance and support to junior underwriters and other team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
- Analyze data trends to identify potential areas for growth and improvement within the Allied Medical division.
- Assist in the development of new insurance products tailored to the evolving needs of the healthcare market.
- Engage in regular meetings with management to discuss underwriting strategies and share insights on market developments.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in finance, business administration, or a related field.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in underwriting, preferably within the medical or healthcare insurance sector.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed decisions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with clients, brokers, and team members.
- Proficiency in underwriting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare regulations is highly desirable.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team environment.
- Familiarity with risk assessment methodologies and tools.
Nice to have
- Professional certification in underwriting (e.g., CPCU, AINS) is a plus.
- Experience with data analytics tools and methodologies.
- Previous involvement in product development or market analysis within the insurance industry.
- Bilingual capabilities, particularly in Spanish, can be advantageous.
