Data Scientist, GovTech Anti Scam Products
Job description
.
About the role
The role centers on owning the end to end lifecycle of machine learning solutions that protect citizens from fraud at scale. You will operate across data infrastructure, AI and ML model development, and production system operations with a focus on proactive scam detection. The work demands close collaboration with business stakeholders to translate evolving scam patterns into robust data strategies and technical solutions. You will shape the roadmap of what gets built next while advocating technical ideas across government agencies. Expect rapid prototyping and a bias toward testing ideas in the real world to validate feasibility quickly. Ownership extends beyond coding to defining priorities and having a voice in what should be built next. You will design novel systems that navigate bureaucratic constraints and deliver measurable public good. This position is embedded within a culture that values Agile, Bold, and Collaborative execution for digital transformation.
Key facts
What you'll do
Identify evolving scam problems through deep conversations with business stakeholders and determine the data and techniques required to address them.
Develop and iterate on machine learning models, track their performance, and deploy the most appropriate solutions into production environments.
Build and operate production systems independently, working alongside engineers to ensure reliable serving of anti scam capabilities.
Present analytical findings, solicit feedback from stakeholders, and prioritize refinements while managing the overall project timeline.
Identify potential projects that enhance public good and align with the strategic objectives of the government agency.
Design novel systems that account for and work around bureaucratic constraints without compromising effectiveness or scalability.
Advocate and communicate technical concepts clearly to other government agencies and non technical audiences.
Rapid prototype alternative approaches instead of extensive debate, using testing to surface problems early and convey possibilities efficiently.
Take ownership of technical decisions and provide opinions on direction, contributing ideas on what should be built next.
Commit to continuous learning to keep pace with advances in data science, AI, and machine learning within the public sector context.
Collaborate with partners to integrate APIs and data flows that strengthen the broader anti scam ecosystem.
Contribute to front end systems and user facing tools that enforcement agencies use in their investigations.
Monitor deployed models in production, ensuring they continue to perform as intended and adapting them to new scam tactics.
Document methodologies, decisions, and system behaviors to support reproducibility and knowledge transfer.
Requirements
Eligibility and hard bars that must be met without exception as a baseline for the role.
You possess a strong quantitative background with a degree in a relevant field such as data science, computer science, or statistics.
You have hands on experience with machine learning frameworks and libraries commonly used in production environments.
You demonstrate proficiency in programming, with strong skills in at least one modern language used for data science and software engineering.
You have a track record of building and deploying models or analytical systems into production.
You communicate complex ideas clearly to both technical and non technical stakeholders.
You are comfortable working in a fast moving, agile environment where priorities can shift quickly.
You are a collaborative team player who thrives when working closely with engineers, product managers, and government partners.
Nice to have
Preferred attributes that would strengthen your candidacy if present, but are not mandatory for application.
Experience with large scale data infrastructure and streaming data platforms.
Familiarity with public sector or regulatory constraints related to data usage and privacy.
Knowledge of cybersecurity and fraud detection use cases in government contexts.
Experience contributing to open source projects or publishing technical work.
