About the role
Bamboohr is looking for a Product Lifecycle Management Subject Matter Expert to join their team and provide deep domain knowledge across the full product lifecycle. This role centers on advising stakeholders, shaping processes, and ensuring that product data flows correctly from concept through retirement. The PLM SME will work closely with cross-functional teams to define best practices, configure systems, and support adoption of lifecycle management standards. The position requires someone who can translate complex product information needs into clear, actionable guidance for both technical and business audiences.

What you'll do
Serve as the primary authority on product lifecycle management principles and methodologies across the organization. Advise project teams on how to structure product data, metadata, and document hierarchies within the PLM environment. Collaborate with engineering and operations groups to map current product development workflows and identify improvement opportunities. Lead the configuration and customization of PLM tools to match organizational product structure and change management needs. Develop and maintain documentation that describes PLM processes, standards, and governance policies for internal teams. Facilitate training sessions and workshops to build user competency and drive adoption of lifecycle management practices. Coordinate with IT and software vendors to plan system upgrades, integrations, and data migration activities. Monitor KPIs related to product data quality, change request turnaround, and system utilization to guide continuous improvement. Act as a liaison between business units and the PLM administration team to prioritize enhancements and resolve issues. Support the rollout of new product programs by establishing templates, workflows, and data entry standards from the outset.
Requirements
Demonstrated expertise in product lifecycle management concepts, including data governance, change control, and configuration management. Proven experience working with at least one major PLM platform such as Windchill, Teamcenter, or Arena in a professional setting. Strong understanding of engineering bill of materials structures and how they relate to manufacturing and sourcing processes. Ability to analyze complex business processes and document them clearly for diverse stakeholder audiences. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the capacity to present technical topics to non-technical listeners. A bachelor's degree in engineering, information systems, or a closely related technical field is expected. A minimum of five years of hands-on experience in product data management or lifecycle-related roles is required. Self-directed work ethic with the ability to manage multiple workstreams and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Nice to have
Experience with ERP system integration, particularly SAP or Oracle, in a product data context. Familiarity with model-based definition or digital thread concepts as they apply to modern product development. Prior exposure to regulatory or quality management frameworks such as ISO 9001 or AS9100. Knowledge of scripting or automation tools that can streamline PLM data administration tasks.
Skills & tools
Proficiency in at least one enterprise PLM platform including Windchill, Teamcenter, or Arena PLM. Understanding of product data management principles, including item classification, revision schemes, and release workflows. Experience with business process modeling and documentation using standard notation or diagramming methods. Familiarity with SQL or database query concepts for extracting and validating product data. Competence with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel for data analysis and PowerPoint for presentations. Awareness of integration middleware or API-based tools used to connect PLM systems with downstream applications.
Practical notes
