Senior Product Manager
Job description
About the role
GoCardless is a global bank payment provider processing over US$130bn annually for more than 100,000 businesses. We are seeking a Senior Product Manager to join our Payment Flows team and drive the evolution of our bank payment network. In this capacity, you will own the end-to-end strategy and execution for the transaction settlement experience, directly influencing how quickly and reliably money moves across the network. You will be responsible for defining the future state of our payment flows, identifying where machine learning can de-risk and accelerate transactions, and ensuring that every release translates into improved certainty for our customers. This role requires you to act as the central orchestrator between engineering, data science, and commercial teams to turn ambiguous business needs into coherent product outcomes. You will manage the discovery, validation, and delivery of initiatives that remove friction and increase trust in the bank payment system. Your work will ensure that the network not only processes volume but does so with resilience, transparency, and a clear product narrative.
Key facts
What you'll do
Analyze the current state of bank payment settlement flows to uncover bottlenecks that delay the clearing and confirmation of transactions.
Design product experiments that leverage machine learning solutions to confirm payments more efficiently, turning uncertainty into real-time certainty.
Translate ambiguous requirements from stakeholders into structured hypotheses, running rigorous tests that inform the direction of the payment network roadmap.
Collaborate with engineering managers and data scientists to define technical specifications and ensure that new product capabilities are built to production-grade standards.
Own the communication of product value to customer success and product marketing teams, equipping them with narratives and evidence that drive revenue and retention.
Manage the full product lifecycle, coordinating discovery, prioritization, development, and rollout without direct authority over cross-functional teams.
Structure complex, ambiguous problem spaces into clear, actionable roadmaps that balance regulatory constraints with commercial opportunity.
Evaluate the impact of each feature through quantitative and qualitative metrics, iterating quickly when results do not match expected improvements in payment certainty.
Champion a high agency approach to ownership, ensuring that the Payment Flows team can operate autonomously while maintaining alignment with business objectives.
Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the bank payment network, using this expertise to anticipate industry shifts and future product demands.
Establish feedback loops with large and small customers, translating their operational challenges into product improvements that enhance settlement reliability.
Prioritize initiatives based on their potential to reduce failed payments, lower processing costs, and increase trust in the bank payment ecosystem.
Champion data-informed decision-making, ensuring that every major product move is backed by evidence rather than intuition.
Act as the primary liaison between technical teams and executive stakeholders, articulating the rationale behind product choices through structured reasoning.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience in product management, with a clear track record of data-led decision-making that has moved business metrics.
- Proven ability to perform both qualitative and quantitative analysis to identify opportunities and define success metrics for complex problems.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the capability to influence stakeholders and executives using structured reasoning and concise narratives.
- Demonstrated leadership in coordinating efforts across multiple functions, guiding teams without direct authority through persuasion and clarity.
- A high agency approach to ownership, comfortable making decisions quickly and taking responsibility for outcomes in a fast-paced environment.
- Fluency in product strategy and roadmap development, with examples of how you have adapted plans in response to new information.
- Hands-on experience with data analysis tools, enabling you to interrogate datasets and derive insights that inform product choices.
- Understanding of how machine learning can be applied to product problems, particularly in the domain of financial transactions and risk.
