About the role
The is responsible for owning and evolving the global design vision that defines how the firm presents itself to the world. You will architect brand expression, translating complex legal strategies into clear visual narratives that resonate across diverse audiences. This role sits at the intersection of brand strategy, creative excellence, and operational rigor, shaping the firm's market presence with precision and insight. You will lead efforts that balance disciplined execution with forward-looking imagination, reinforcing Gibson Dunn's reputation as a respected global practice.
Global Brand Leadership and Strategy
You will translate the firm's overarching strategy into a cohesive brand framework that strengthens differentiation and client engagement across all regions. This includes providing creative direction for communications, content, digital and social media channels, and event programs. You will establish and maintain global brand standards while enabling cultural and regional adaptation where appropriate. Oversight of visual identity systems, templates, and global asset libraries will ensure consistent brand integrity at scale, supporting the firm's high‑visibility work in law and business.
Building and Leading an In‑House Creative Function
You will grow and shape an in‑house creative services function tailored specifically to Gibson Dunn's needs. This includes identifying, selecting, and onboarding external agencies when necessary to augment internal capacity and bring complementary skills into play. You will also implement design technology solutions, such as project management tools, digital asset managers, and brand automation platforms, to enable efficient collaboration across offices and jurisdictions. Your leadership will create an environment where creative teams can deliver exceptional work with clarity and efficiency.
Project Management and Delivery Excellence
A dedicated project management capability will be established within the Creative Design team to ensure timely, efficient, and high‑quality delivery of all creative initiatives and campaigns. You will define and implement standardized processes for project intake, prioritization, scheduling, and resource allocation. Through the use of project management tools and dashboards, you will provide clear visibility into timelines, budgets, and deliverables. Performance metrics will be monitored regularly, allowing for continuous optimization of workflows to support scalability and efficiency.
Digital Asset Management and Governance
You will oversee the identification, selection, administration, and optimization of the Digital Asset Management (DAM) platform. This includes ensuring proper organization, metadata tagging, version control, and compliance with brand standards. You will also develop and enforce governance policies for asset lifecycle management, covering upload, storage, retrieval, archival, and user access permissions. These measures will maintain data integrity, security, and consistency across all creative outputs.
AI Integration and Innovation
You will demonstrate willingness and aptitude for identifying and implementing AI-driven solutions that enhance design speed, scalability, and personalization without compromising brand integrity. This includes staying informed about emerging AI technologies in creative industries and thoughtfully integrating them into the firm's brand and marketing strategies. You will use AI tools to support creative workflows, including generative design, image creation, and automated content adaptation, always with an eye toward preserving accuracy and professionalism.
Collaboration and Cross‑Functional Impact
This role reports to the Chief Client Experience & Communications Officer and requires close collaboration with colleagues across all legal and professional functions worldwide. You will partner with senior leaders, lawyers, and professionals across diverse practices and regions to bring bold ideas to life. Your work will define the visual identity and brand experience for a firm operating at the highest levels of law and business, ensuring that every touchpoint reflects clarity, authority, and sophistication.
Key Qualifications
You must have 3 to 5 years of experience directing creative for professional services or B2B environments. You must understand how to manage global brand standards while allowing for regional adaptation. Strong knowledge of design technology, project management tools, and digital asset management platforms is required. You must also demonstrate aptitude for AI-driven solutions that improve speed and personalization while protecting brand integrity.
Compensation and Location
Compensation for this role ranges from $195,000 to $220,000. The position is based in New York and typically requires 3 to 5 years of relevant experience.
