About the role
You will operate at the nexus of litigation support and procedural excellence within the California offices of the firm. This role owns the integrity and accuracy of court filings and docketing workflows under the supervision of the Managing Attorney-CA. You craft the procedural backbone that allows litigators to focus on strategy and advocacy. The position demands a unique blend of technical precision, investigative curiosity, and discretion when handling sensitive case information. You will serve as the primary gatekeeper for docketing compliance across multiple high-stakes matters in California state and federal courts. Your work will directly influence the firm's ability to meet critical deadlines and maintain flawless records. What you'll do
Perform exhaustive reviews of all court documents served and filed through the Managing Attorney's Office-CA to ensure absolute accuracy in form and procedural compliance.
Conduct sophisticated legal research to deliver timely advice to litigators on complex procedural matters across California state and federal jurisdictions.
Deliver authoritative procedural guidance and strategic advice to lawyers concerning motion practice, court rules, and filing protocols in California courts.
Coordinate and manage service of process activities, including the strategic engagement and oversight of process servers to ensure valid and timely delivery.
Execute electronic case filings via CM/ECF and CA state court systems, while simultaneously managing hard copy filings and comprehensive document retrieval requests.
Utilize advanced search techniques to extract critical information from PACER, Bloomberg Law, CourtAlert, Westlaw, and other court-related databases and docketing platforms.
Screen and analyze incoming court documents and office correspondence to calculate, calendar, and track all relevant deadlines using the firm's proprietary docketing system.
Provide robust quality control checks for docket and calendar entries to mitigate risk and ensure the highest standard of accuracy in all records.
Support department-wide initiatives and ad-hoc projects that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the litigation support function.
Continuously monitor all active firm matters, cases, and litigants of interest through Bloomberg Law, E-Courts, CourtAlert, and other integrated databases.
Draft and supply sample forms of pleadings, stipulations, and other legal documents to standardize internal workflows and client deliverables.
Docket and calendar case information with precision in the CourtAlert system, computing future trial, hearing, and filing dates based on service methods and document filing timelines.
Access and interpret detailed case history and future filing deadlines maintained within the internal electronic docket and calendar systems.
Requirements
Must possess a J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school and current admission to the California state bar, as this role involves significant contact with lawyers, court, and clerical staff.
Must demonstrate the ability to work as a self-starter who can function independently and under pressure while exhibiting extraordinary attention to detail in high-volume environments.
Must be thoroughly familiar with California federal and state court systems, including the corresponding federal and state court rules governing litigation procedures.
Must interact effectively and professionally with all levels of personnel, including attorneys, co-workers, and administrative staff, to ensure seamless collaboration.
Must be flexible and resilient, capable of responding quickly and positively to shifting priorities and urgent demands while working competently under tight deadlines.
Must possess strong organizational skills to plan, organize, and complete multiple related activities simultaneously without compromising quality.
Must consistently deliver high-quality work product and demonstrate the ability to follow up and follow through on complex tasks to closure.
Must meet the bar admission requirement and maintain good standing to practice law in California, ensuring eligibility for all listed responsibilities.
Nice to have
Experience supervising other members of a Managing Attorney/Clerk's Office at a large law firm, as this role involves significant operational responsibilities.
Experience with CourtAlert or similar advanced calendaring and docketing software, which would allow for an immediate contribution to critical filing workflows.
Practical notes
This is a full-time position.
Travel is primarily localized to California offices, including Century City, Los Angeles, Orange County, Palo Alto, and San Francisco.
