Nuclear Licensing Engineer

About the role

The is responsible for ensuring the company's nuclear fuel cycle facility operations comply with all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements. This role owns the preparation, review, and submission of all licensing documentation to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and other applicable regulatory bodies. The hire will conduct technical evaluations against 10 CFR and related industry standards to confirm adherence and implement corrective actions where necessary. They will monitor regulatory changes and analyze the impact on facility licensing and operational strategy. The role requires close collaboration with engineering, operations, legal, and environmental teams to resolve regulatory issues and maintain compliance. The Nuclear Licensing Engineer will represent the company during inspections, audits, and regulatory meetings, safeguarding licensing interests. They will maintain accurate records and documentation to support regulatory reviews, audits, and license renewals. This position is instrumental in developing and executing strategies to obtain and maintain licenses for current and future nuclear facilities.

What you'll do

Prepare and review licensing documents, including licensing applications, regulatory reports, amendment requests, and license renewal applications, in compliance with NRC requirements.

Communicate with regulatory agencies such as the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and ensure timely resolution of inquiries.

Develop and implement strategies to obtain and maintain licenses for new and existing nuclear facilities and projects.

Conduct technical evaluations to ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., 10 CFR).

Monitor changes to nuclear regulations and assess their impact on operations and licensing.

Support safety analyses, environmental reports, and risk assessments to ensure regulatory compliance.

Collaborate with engineering, operations, legal, and environmental teams to address licensing requirements and resolve regulatory issues.

Participate in inspections, audits, and regulatory meetings, representing the company's licensing interests.

Maintain accurate records and documentation to support regulatory reviews and audits.

Perform license amendment preparations in response to facility changes or regulatory updates.

Assist in the development of compliance documentation for regulatory interactions and submissions.

Coordinate with cross-functional teams to collect necessary data for licensing packages.

Track licensing milestones and deadlines to ensure on-time regulatory deliverables.

Provide regulatory interpretation and guidance to internal stakeholders on compliance matters.

Requirements

Demonstrate a strong understanding of engineering fundamentals and the ability to perform trade studies and make clear recommendations using first principles and engineering fundamentals even with partial information.

Show a strong understanding of NRC regulations, including 10 CFR, and related industry standards such as ANSI and ASME.

Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear and concise regulatory documentation.

Exhibit strong organizational and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.

Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment.

Ability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary.
