You will own the end-to-end mechanical design and analysis for a pioneering uranium enrichment facility, driving critical infrastructure from concept to commissioning. You will act as a key technical leader, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of structural, architectural, electrical, and chemical engineers to integrate complex mechanical solutions. You will leverage your expertise to troubleshoot design challenges and support vendor activities, ensuring seamless execution in a fast-paced environment. What you'll do
- Design and analyze mechanical systems including HVAC, central plant equipment such as chillers and boilers, and distribution systems for ductwork and piping.
- Prepare detailed permit-level design packages using Revit to ensure accuracy and compliance for construction documentation.
- Collaborate with structural, architectural, electrical, and chemical engineers to develop integrated mechanical solutions that meet project specifications.
- Create code-compliant designs, comprehensive drawing sets in Revit and AutoCAD, and detailed calculations, specifications, and technical reports.
- Conduct thorough reviews of design documents to verify adherence to regulatory requirements and project standards.
- Contribute to project concept development, feasibility studies, and scope definition to define clear mechanical requirements.
- Deliver mechanical solutions that balance performance, cost, and schedule objectives within the constraints of a dynamic project environment.
- Support vendor activities and provide technical troubleshooting to resolve design and installation issues as they arise.
- Utilize advanced engineering software tools to model, simulate, and validate mechanical system performance.
- Ensure all designs are prepared to permit level, facilitating smooth approval processes with local authorities.
- Apply first-principles thinking to solve complex engineering challenges inherent in nuclear fuel production facilities.
- Manage multiple concurrent projects while maintaining a high standard of quality and attention to detail.
Requirements
- Hold a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related discipline.
- Possess a minimum of 8+ years of industry experience in mechanical engineering roles.
- Hold an active Professional Engineer (PE) license, which is mandatory for this position.
- Demonstrate extensive experience working with HVAC systems, including design and sizing.
- Show proficiency in industry-standard software including AutoCAD, Revit, and Bluebeam.
- Exhibit the ability to work extended hours, including weekends, as project demands require.
- Maintain a strong commitment to safety, quality, and regulatory compliance in all engineering activities.
- Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to ensure alignment on project goals.

- Apply computational fluid dynamics (CFD) knowledge to enhance design solutions.
- Develop custom details to address unique facility design conditions and challenges.
- Contribute experience on large-scale, mission-critical construction projects in the nuclear sector.
- Ensure thorough understanding and application of local and state code compliance during the design process.
Practical notes
- This is a full-time position based in Paducah, Kentucky.
- The role may require extended hours and weekend work depending on project milestones and deadlines.
