About the role
The Chemical Operations Manager will own the end-to-end chemical lifecycle for our uranium enrichment facility, from initial process development through safe and compliant full‑scale operations. This role owns the design and execution of chemical process strategies that directly support production targets and operational reliability. You will establish and enforce nuclear‑grade quality standards for all chemical streams, ensuring every batch meets strict specifications. The manager will drive continuous improvement initiatives, lead incident investigations, and implement corrective actions to eliminate recurring issues. You will foster a nuclear safety culture where rigorous procedures, proactive risk assessment, and disciplined execution are standard practice. This position requires close collaboration with engineering, R&D, and project teams to align chemical activities with project timelines and technical requirements. Ultimately, you will enable the reliable, cost‑effective production of enriched uranium that powers advanced manufacturing and national energy goals.
Key facts
What you'll do
Develop and implement chemical process procedures, operating parameters, and safety protocols that support facility startup and steady‑state operations.
Provide technical input for project work plans and schedules, identifying risks related to production, materials, equipment, or processes that may impact schedule or budget.
In conjunction with industrial health and safety staff, develop required Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and ensure necessary safety protocols, equipment, procedures and training are established to ensure a safe and compliant work environment.
Maintain strict oversight of chemical inventory, material flows, and waste streams, ensuring compliance with NRC and EPA regulations.
Perform process performance monitoring, collect and analyze operational data, and coordinate adjustments that optimize efficiency, quality, and reliability.
Oversee laboratory capabilities, testing programs, and product quality assurance activities to verify that all chemical outputs meet stringent specifications.
Manage the evaluation, qualification, and procurement of chemicals and materials, ensuring traceability, proper storage, and secure handling.
Lead or participate in cross‑functional project teams to integrate chemical operations with engineering designs and construction milestones.
Ensure implementation of hazard communication programs, safety data management, and emergency response readiness for chemical incidents.
Direct the hiring, training, and supervision of chemistry technicians and supervisors, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous learning.
Drive continuous improvement, execute root cause analysis for deviations, and oversee corrective and preventive actions to sustain operational excellence.
Maintain up‑to‑date documentation of procedures, standard work instructions, and process changes for audit readiness and knowledge transfer.
Support the development and qualification of new chemical processes and technologies that align with enrichment objectives.
Act as the primary technical contact for chemical matters with internal stakeholders and external regulators during facility development and operations.
Perform additional assignments as requested by management to address evolving business needs or project priorities.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, nuclear engineering, or a related field.
8+ years of experience in nuclear chemical operations, engineering, project management, or design.
Comprehensive knowledge of chemical processing, analytical chemistry, and industrial chemistry applications within nuclear environments.
Experience with laboratory and product quality assurance programs.
Strong knowledge of hazardous materials handling, chemical safety protocols, and emergency response procedures is required.
Solid interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive working relationships.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse teams.
Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment.
Self‑motivated and committed to continuous learning and improvement.
Candidates must demonstrate thorough understanding of NRC regulations (10 CFR Parts 19, 20, 70, and others as applicable) and nuclear safety principles.
Ability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary.
U.S. citizenship or eligibility for U.S. employment is required due to the sensitive nature of nuclear operations.
Background checks, drug screening, and security clearance processes will be required for this role.
Nice to have
Preferred Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field is highly desirable.
Previous experience establishing and certifying chemical laboratories and product certification.
Strong knowledge of project planning, cost management, budgets, and financial implications.
Experience with Uranium hexafluoride chemistry and processing.

Practical notes
This is a full-time position based in Los Angeles, California.
Extended hours and weekend work may be required during facility startup, commissioning, or emergency response.
