About the role
You will own the end-to-end coordination of strategic initiatives that bridge external affairs, government engagement, and internal operations at General Matter. This role is responsible for establishing and maintaining trusted relationships with local communities, government stakeholders, regulators, and industry partners on behalf of the company. You will drive the execution of high-visibility programs that support permitting, public engagement, and cross-functional alignment. The position requires navigating ambiguity while ensuring transparent and timely communication across all stakeholder groups. You will represent the company professionally in diverse settings, upholding a culture of urgency, accountability, and transparency. Your work will directly support national ambitions around energy independence and industrial growth.

What you'll do
Lead and coordinate cross-functional strategic programs that align with company growth, external engagement, and operational priorities.
Support government relations activities by interfacing with federal, state, and local agencies and their key stakeholders.
Help manage community engagement initiatives, public outreach efforts, and targeted local stakeholder communications.
Coordinate meetings, briefings, site visits, and structured engagement activities with government officials, regulators, industry partners, and community organizations.
Develop and maintain program schedules, action trackers, status reports, and executive briefings to ensure visibility and accountability.
Partner with internal teams including Operations, Engineering, Legal, Communications, Security, Supply Chain, and Leadership to ensure alignment on critical initiatives.
Track permitting, regulatory, and external engagement activities while driving timely follow-up and execution across workstreams.
Support the development of presentations, briefing materials, talking points, and external communications tailored to diverse audiences.
Identify program risks, dependencies, and execution gaps while leading resolution efforts across internal and external stakeholders.
Build and maintain strong, trust-based working relationships across diverse internal departments and external organizations.
Support strategic planning, operational coordination, and the execution of special projects as delegated by leadership.
Coordinate with external vendors, consultants, agencies, and strategic partners to advance shared objectives.
Represent the company at industry conferences, public meetings, regulatory forums, and community events as required.
Help establish scalable program management processes and operating rhythms to support the evolving organizational structure.
Oversee complex logistics and timelines to ensure that milestones are met within scope and in accordance with corporate standards.
Requirements
Possess a minimum of 7+ years of experience in program management, operations, government affairs, external affairs, community relations, project management, or related leadership capacities.
Demonstrate strong organizational and execution skills with the capacity to manage multiple concurrent priorities in a fast-paced setting.
Exhibit excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills across formal and informal contexts.
Show proven experience coordinating across cross-functional teams and engaging with external stakeholders effectively.
Operate effectively within fast-paced, high-growth, and ambiguous environments while maintaining composure under pressure.
Maintain strong attention to detail and professionalism when managing sensitive or high-visibility initiatives.
Prepare executive presentations, briefing materials, and status reports with clarity, accuracy, and strategic insight.
Apply strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills to complex challenges affecting program execution.
Build trust and sustain effective relationships across diverse stakeholder groups, including officials, partners, and community members.
Earn a Bachelor's degree in Business, Public Policy, Communications, Political Science, International Relations, Engineering, or a related field, or demonstrate equivalent experience.
Ability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary to meet operational and strategic demands.

Bring experience working with government agencies, regulators, community organizations, or public-private partnerships.
Contribute background in energy, infrastructure, manufacturing, aerospace, defense, nuclear, mining, or other highly regulated industries.
Support permitting, regulatory, or external stakeholder engagement activities with a demonstrated track record.
Apply familiarity with public affairs, strategic communications, or community engagement best practices to program design.
Hold a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent program management experience in demanding environments.
Thrive in startup or high-growth operational environments with agility and ownership.
Show strong executive communication and stakeholder management capabilities across hierarchical levels.
Handle sensitive issues with professionalism, discretion, and ethical judgment in all interactions.
