Gale Associates is seeking a dedicated Staff Engineer specializing in Building Enclosures to join our dynamic team in Glastonbury, Connecticut. What you'll do

Lead the design and engineering of building enclosure systems, including walls, roofs, and fenestration, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards.
Conduct thorough analyses of building envelope performance, focusing on thermal, moisture, and air barrier systems to optimize energy efficiency.
Collaborate with architects and project managers to develop design solutions that meet project specifications and client needs.
Prepare detailed technical documentation, including specifications, drawings, and reports, to support project delivery and compliance.
Participate in site visits and inspections to assess the installation of building enclosure systems, ensuring adherence to design intent and quality standards.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and interns, fostering a collaborative and learning-oriented environment.
Engage in project management activities, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation, to ensure timely and successful project completion.
Stay current with industry trends, materials, and technologies related to building enclosures, applying this knowledge to enhance project outcomes.
Contribute to the development of innovative design strategies that promote sustainability and resilience in building enclosure systems.
Assist in the preparation of proposals and presentations for potential clients, showcasing Gale Associates' expertise and capabilities.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address complex engineering challenges and develop integrated solutions.
Participate in professional organizations and continuing education opportunities to enhance personal and organizational knowledge in building enclosure engineering.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related field; a Master's degree is a plus.
A minimum of 5 years of experience in building enclosure design and engineering, with a strong portfolio of completed projects.
Proficiency in industry-standard software tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, and energy modeling software.
In-depth knowledge of building codes, standards, and best practices related to building enclosures.
Strong analytical skills, with the ability to conduct performance assessments and simulations of building envelope systems.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively convey technical information to diverse audiences.
Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, demonstrating leadership and mentorship capabilities.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Familiarity with sustainable design practices and materials, including LEED certification processes, is advantageous.

Nice to have

Professional Engineer (PE) license or the ability to obtain one within a specified timeframe.
Experience with building information modeling (BIM) and integrated project delivery (IPD) methodologies.
Knowledge of advanced building materials and technologies, such as green roofs and dynamic facades.
Previous experience in construction administration and field observation.
Membership in professional associations such as ASHRAE or AIA is a plus.

Skills & tools

Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, and other design software.
Familiar with energy modeling tools and building performance analysis software.
Strong understanding of building physics, materials science, and structural principles related to building enclosures.
Ability to utilize project management software for tracking progress and resource allocation.

Practical notes

This position is based in Glastonbury, Connecticut, and may require occasional travel to project sites.
The salary for this role will be competitive and commensurate with experience.
