The organization leverages a national network of Registered Dietitians to provide personalized clinical nutrition care, behavior change tools, and food benefits. The Senior Director, Clinical Intelligence holds a pivotal position responsible for constructing and articulating the rigorous evidence that validates Foodsmart's impact. This role serves as the analytical cornerstone of the company's value proposition, ensuring that the claim of improving outcomes for high-need members while saving payers money is both defensible and clear. You will function as the primary technical authority on outcomes and ROI, establishing the research, methodology, and evidence base that the entire organization relies upon. Success in this position demands the ability to translate complex data into credible narratives that withstand scrutiny from payer actuarial teams and external research partners.

This is the most senior data science leadership role within the clinical outcomes function, reporting directly to the VP of Analytics & Data Science. You will lead a focused team while remaining deeply engaged in the core research and methodological work. In this capacity, you are expected to utilize AI as a genuine force multiplier, accelerating research velocity and extending analytical reach beyond what traditional team sizing would allow. The position requires a unique blend of scientific rigor, strategic communication, and systems thinking.

Key Responsibilities

You will own the end-to-end methodology for Foodsmart's ROI and clinical outcomes measurement. This involves identifying the member populations deriving the greatest benefit and precisely quantifying the delivered value for both members and payers. This methodology must be robust enough to withstand technical review.

You will represent this methodology directly to payers and external actuarial firms, defending the analytical approach under intense technical scrutiny. This role requires presenting not just final figures, but the underlying logic and causal assumptions in a clear, credible manner.

A core function involves building the ROI and evidence methodology as a scalable system. The goal is to create a repeatable framework that accommodates new member populations and payer conversations without requiring a complete rebuild for each engagement.

You will own the clinical research agenda, translating results into white papers, publications, and other external research outputs. This work is critical for establishing and maintaining Foodsmart's credibility as a market leader in value-based nutrition.

You will partner closely with the clinical team to ensure that research findings directly inform and improve care delivery practices. This closes the loop between evidence generation and practical implementation.

You will serve as the central internal expert on clinical outcomes, feeding this expertise into the broader external narrative that the company communicates to clients and prospects. However, you will not own the overall client narrative, which resides with go-to-market and client teams.

You will lead and develop a small team of analysts while remaining hands-on with the most complex research and methodology challenges. Leveraging AI and other advanced tooling is essential to maximize the team's productivity and impact.

Required Qualifications and Experience

You possess a Master's degree in health economics, biostatistics, epidemiology, economics, or a closely related quantitative field; a PhD is strongly preferred.

You bring a minimum of twelve years of experience as a health economist or actuary, with a proven track record of building and defending ROI and value-based care methodology. This includes at least four years of team leadership experience.

You have a history of genuine research, including published white papers or peer-reviewed work that demonstrates a high level of rigor and credibility to external audiences.

You apply deep, hands-on expertise in causal inference methods, including matched cohort design, risk adjustment, and quasi-experimental evaluation, specifically within healthcare cost and outcomes analysis.

You have extensive practical experience navigating healthcare claims data, encompassing both medical and pharmacy (Rx) datasets for cost and utilization analysis.

You have direct experience presenting ROI and outcomes methodology to payers, actuaries, and other technical audiences. You are accustomed to defending your approach under intense scrutiny and pressure.

You have a proven ability to partner with clinical and care delivery teams to translate research findings into operational practice changes.

You are highly proficient in working with data using SQL, R, or Python to conduct your own analysis. You also have experience building data models and automation to scale results, including the use of AI coding tools.

You are comfortable using AI-native tools, such as Claude Code, to accelerate research and analysis while maintaining strict methodological integrity.

You possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of producing clear, compelling content for both technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience working with national payers and Medicaid managed care organizations is highly valued.

Logistics

This is a remote position based within the United States. The engagement is full-time. The salary range for this role is $180,000 to $220,000 annually. Please What you'll do
