Software Engineer

About the role

You will own the full lifecycle of software that touches the daily lives of residents and operators across Flow's portfolio, turning messy real world problems into reliable, human centered software. You will partner directly with operators, neighbors, and business leaders to discover friction, design workflows, and deliver solutions that meaningfully change how work gets done and how people experience their buildings. You will move fluidly across the stack, writing backend services, frontend interfaces, data pipelines, infrastructure as code, automation, and AI powered features with equal comfort. You will treat your role as a product engineer, deeply questioning what you build, why you build it, and how it creates real value rather than just shipping code. You will communicate clearly and move fast with AI assistants, using tools like Claude Code and Cursor to amplify your impact while maintaining a high quality bar. You will embrace learning as a core job requirement, rapidly picking up new languages, frameworks, and domains because the problems we solve are too important to protect your existing habits. You will own problems end to end, from discovery and scoping through implementation and rollout, and you will challenge assumptions about how software should support real operations. You will be expected to work onsite or in the office, because collaboration and shared context are central to how we build better outcomes for our community.

What you'll do

Translate messy operational workflows and ambiguous neighbor needs into well defined software opportunities alongside product and operations partners.

Design and deliver backend services and data models that reliably support the flow of people, packages, payments, and permissions across our buildings.

Build intuitive frontend experiences and internal tools that make property operations smoother and residents' lives easier.

Implement data pipelines and analytics that turn building events and interactions into actionable insights for operators and leaders.

Wire up AI features and intelligent workflows that augment human teams, reduce manual busywork, and improve decision quality.

Write and maintain infrastructure as code, deployment pipelines, and monitoring that keep our systems secure, observable, and scalable.

Collaborate with cross functional teams to scope, prioritize, and iterate on solutions that balance speed, quality, and long term maintainability.

Own end to end delivery of features, from discovery and design through implementation, testing, and rollout in live environments.

Challenge existing processes and technology choices by proposing experiments that improve how work is done across the business.

Use AI coding assistants and agents as core parts of your development process, writing clear prompts and documentation to get the most from these tools.

Maintain a high quality bar for your work by reviewing your own code, questioning edge cases, and slowing down when deeper judgment is required.

Continuously learn new languages, frameworks, and domains as the problems we solve expand across residential, hotel, and office products.

Communicate progress, tradeoffs, and blockers clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring alignment on goals and outcomes.

Treat every production system as a product, thinking about reliability, usability, and the real people who depend on it every day.

Requirements

You have a strong foundation in software fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and system design, with the ability to apply them in practical settings.

You are comfortable writing backend services in at least one modern language and understand how databases, queues, and networks work together to deliver reliable systems.

You have experience building or consuming APIs and integrating systems so that services and teams can work together smoothly.

You understand version control, automated testing, and at least some form of infrastructure as code, and you use these practices to keep your work reliable and repeatable.

You are AI-native in your approach, having used tools like Claude Code or Cursor extensively and built a workflow where AI is a core part of your craft.

You can write clear, structured prompts and documentation that let others understand and reproduce your work, whether the audience is engineers or operators.

You move quickly with AI assistance but know when to slow down and apply deeper engineering judgment to avoid shipping problems disguised as speed.

You treat your skill set as something to keep building, not protect, and you actively expand into unfamiliar technologies when the job demands it.

You are comfortable working onsite or in the office, recognizing that real collaboration and shared context are essential to the role.

Nice to have

Experience working in real estate, property management, or building operations technology.

Background in designing user experiences for operators and residents who are not software professionals.

Familiarity with AI powered development workflows and prompt engineering for software engineering tasks.
