About the role
Flow Traders is seeking a Staff Enterprise Engineer to join their growing team in Amsterdam. This role focuses on building and maintaining the enterprise infrastructure that supports the firm's trading operations and business applications. The engineer will work across large-scale distributed systems, ensuring reliability, performance, and security of critical platforms that drive daily business operations. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including developers, operations, and security to design and implement solutions that meet the demanding needs of a fast-paced financial services environment.

What you'll do
Design and operate enterprise-scale infrastructure that supports trading and business applications across the organization
Lead architectural decisions for platform reliability, scalability, and performance across all engineering teams
Partner with development teams to deploy, manage, and optimize services in production environments
Automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration management processes to reduce manual operational effort significantly
Monitor system health and performance metrics, responding to incidents and outages with urgency
Build and maintain reliable CI/CD pipelines for consistent, repeatable, and high-quality software delivery
Evaluate and integrate new technologies and tools that improve operational efficiency and system resilience
Document infrastructure architecture, runbooks, and operational procedures to support team knowledge sharing effectively
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of continuous learning and engineering excellence
Collaborate with security teams to ensure all infrastructure meets compliance and access control standards
Drive capacity planning and resource optimization to support growing business demands and traffic patterns
Participate in architecture reviews and provide technical guidance on enterprise platform direction and strategy
Own and improve service level agreements and escalation procedures for critical infrastructure components
Contribute to disaster recovery planning and business continuity strategies for enterprise systems and data
Requirements
A strong background in systems engineering, computer science, or a related technical discipline with relevant industry experience
Solid experience in managing large-scale distributed systems in production environments with high availability and fault tolerance
Demonstrated proficiency with Linux system administration and core networking fundamentals in enterprise or cloud environments
Strong familiarity with containerization and orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes in production deployment scenarios
Substantial hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code tools and configuration management systems for automated cloud provisioning
Strong ability to troubleshoot complex issues across multi-tier application stacks under tight operational deadlines
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective cross-team collaboration, documentation, and knowledge transfer
Comfortable working in a high-pressure environment with shifting priorities and production incident response responsibilities
Experience with version control systems and collaborative development workflows in a team setting
Strong problem-solving skills and a methodical approach to debugging and root cause analysis
A proactive mindset with the ability to work independently and take ownership of infrastructure projects
Familiarity with agile development methodologies and participation in sprint planning and retrospective meetings
Nice to have
Prior experience in financial services or proprietary trading firms is considered a strong advantage
Knowledge of low-latency systems and performance optimization techniques for high-frequency trading platforms
Familiarity with major cloud providers including AWS or GCP for hybrid infrastructure deployments
Active contributions to open-source projects or community infrastructure tooling demonstrate technical initiative and curiosity
A strong interest in financial markets and electronic trading infrastructure is welcomed
Skills & tools
Linux operating systems and server administration in enterprise and cloud environments
Kubernetes and container orchestration frameworks for managing distributed workloads at scale
Terraform or similar infrastructure-as-code platforms for declarative provisioning and configuration
CI/CD tooling such as Jenkins or GitLab CI for building automated delivery pipelines
Monitoring and observability stacks including Prometheus and Grafana for system health tracking
Networking protocols and distributed systems concepts for designing scalable and resilient infrastructure
Scripting languages such as Python or Bash for automation and operational tasks
Version control systems like Git and collaborative development workflows for team productivity

This role is based in Amsterdam with on-site presence expected at the Flow Traders office
The team operates in a fast-paced trading environment with strict uptime and reliability requirements
