About the role
Figure develops autonomous humanoid robots designed for general-purpose tasks in commercial and residential settings. You will join the Actuation/Hand Integration team to manage the deployment of dexterous hand subsystems into our robotic platforms. In this capacity, you will serve as the critical link between hardware implementation and software orchestration, ensuring that physical subsystems operate seamlessly within the broader robotic control architecture. You will own the end-to-end validation of hand functionality, translating high-level requirements into concrete integration tests and verification procedures. This role requires a methodical approach to system-level thinking, where your work directly determines the reliability and performance of complex robotic manipulations. You will be responsible for establishing robust communication pathways and data flow between disparate hardware and software components. Ultimately, your contributions will enable Figure to deploy reliable dexterous manipulation capabilities that meet stringent commercial standards.

What you'll do
- Connect multi-DOF robotic hands to the humanoid control stack and validate motion, sensing, and control.
- Create and execute test plans for design validation and production, ensuring hardware meets quality benchmarks.
- Integrate tactile, torque, and position sensors into real-time control loops.
- Build diagnostic algorithms to support system fall-back strategies.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and software issues by identifying root causes and implementing fixes.
- Work with controls engineers to tune high-bandwidth actuators and perform system identification.
- Develop custom scripts, dashboards, and automated test rigs to improve data collection and diagnostic efficiency.
- Establish communication protocols between the hand subsystem and the central robot operating system.
- Perform detailed logging of actuator performance to facilitate long-term analysis and iterative improvements.
- Conduct failure mode analysis to preemptively address potential points of weakness in the integration.
- Collaborate with mechanical designers to refine hand interfaces based on integration test results.
- Support the creation of documentation that captures integration procedures and architectural decisions.
- Validate sensor calibration routines to ensure accurate data interpretation during operation.
- Implement regression testing suites to catch integration defects before they reach production environments.
Requirements
- Bachelor or Master degree in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical/Controls Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of practical experience with electromechanical or robotic systems, specifically in integration, manipulation, or actuation.
- Proficient in Python and C++ for embedded diagnostics and development.
- Experience with control tuning and sensor integration for motion systems.
- Knowledge of dynamics, kinematics, mechanics, and sensor technology.
- Familiarity with Linux development environments and laboratory testing equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to work safely around moving mechanical components and high-current electrical systems.
- Capacity to interpret technical schematics and wiring diagrams for diagnostic purposes.
- Willingness to adhere to strict engineering processes and version control methodologies.
- Commitment to maintaining detailed records of integration activities and test results.
- Strong analytical skills to isolate variables during complex system failures.
- Physical capability to manipulate small components and hand assemblies during testing.
- Professional communication skills to coordinate effectively with cross-functional engineering teams.
Nice to have
- Experience with multi-DOF systems or robotic hand actuation.
- Knowledge of communication protocols including Ethercat, Ethernet, SPI, I2C, and Serial.
- Proficiency in Matlab/Simulink.
- CAD skills for cross-functional design collaboration.
Practical notes
- Annual base salary range: $150,000 to $250,000.
- Total compensation details and benefits will be provided upon an offer of employment.

- This role operates within standard engineering schedules with potential for occasional extended hours during critical validation phases.
- Travel is not required for this position.
