About the role
Figure is at the forefront of developing versatile humanoid robots intended for both commercial and residential applications. We are on the lookout for a dedicated security engineer who will play a crucial role in safeguarding our Figure 02 robot and the associated backend infrastructure. This position is essential for ensuring that our innovative products are secure from potential threats and vulnerabilities.

What you'll do
- Assess the security aspects of hardware designs, embedded systems, and software integrations, while also creating tools that facilitate a secure development lifecycle.
- Formulate technical strategies to mitigate security vulnerabilities and collaborate with internal teams to implement these solutions effectively.
- Design systems and frameworks aimed at thwarting reverse engineering attempts and common attacks targeting embedded hardware.
- Actively seek out security weaknesses and insecure design patterns throughout our product ecosystem.
- Promote robust security and privacy practices across the organization to foster a culture of security awareness.
- Conduct thorough security assessments and penetration testing on our products to identify potential risks.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate security measures into the product development process from the ground up.
- Stay updated on the latest security trends and threats in the robotics and embedded systems domains to continuously enhance our security posture.
Requirements
- Expertise in various embedded security domains, including firmware security, hardware reverse engineering, cryptography, security architecture, and micro-controller security.
- In-depth knowledge of electrical engineering, with the capability to reverse engineer communication protocols, hardware interfaces, and embedded systems effectively.
- Solid experience in low-level software security, particularly with C/C++ programming and compiler intricacies.
- Proven ability to work autonomously, prioritize tasks effectively, and collaborate with diverse stakeholders across the organization.
- A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent professional experience is required.
- At least 3 years of relevant experience in hardware security, application security, or a closely related field is essential.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, emphasizing clarity and precision in conveying technical information.

- Familiarity with secure coding practices and security frameworks.
- Experience with threat modeling and risk assessment methodologies.
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance standards related to security in robotics and embedded systems.
- Previous experience in a startup environment or fast-paced technology company.

Practical notes
- The annual base salary for this position ranges from $150,000 to $350,000, reflecting the candidate's skills, experience, and job-related knowledge.
- The final compensation package will be tailored based on individual qualifications and may include additional benefits and compensation components, which will be outlined upon extending an offer.
- This role is based in San Jose, CA, and requires full-time, in-office engagement five days a week.
