Firmware Integration Engineer, Asia
Job description
About the role
Figure builds autonomous humanoid robots designed for home and commercial use. This role operates at the critical intersection of software and hardware where your code directly animates physical machines. You will serve as the primary technical interface between the research focused teams in the United States and the execution driven manufacturing partners located across Asia. Your daily work will involve managing the entire firmware development lifecycle directly on active production lines to de-risk product launches. You will translate high level algorithmic requirements into low level hardware control that operates reliably in demanding environments. This position requires a proactive mindset capable of diagnosing issues that exist neither in simulation nor in documentation. Success in this role is defined by your ability to ship stable firmware updates without disrupting manufacturing throughput.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Execute board bring-up procedures for new hardware prototypes inside partner facilities while validating fundamental power integrity and clocking.
- Author C/C++ diagnostic firmware modules designed to interrogate microcontrollers, power systems, sensors, and complex communication buses under varied conditions.
- Partner with hardware and test engineering groups to construct and sustain automated functional test fixtures that are integrated into high volume assembly lines.
- Isolate and resolve manufacturing defects in real-time using measurement instruments such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and purpose built diagnostic tools.
- Synchronize technical discussions between domestic engineering staff and international manufacturing partners to align on goals and constraints.
- Maintain detailed logs of firmware behavior and hardware anomalies to establish a knowledge base that supports future product iterations.
- Adapt test procedures to comply with the specific requirements of JDMs, CMs, and ODMs during New Product Introduction phases.
- Verify the robustness of communication protocols including CAN, I2C, SPI, and UART to ensure data integrity across noisy industrial environments.
- Support the creation of release candidates by performing regression testing on firmware images across multiple hardware revisions.
- Mentor junior engineers on best practices for embedded debugging and hardware interaction when operating in fast paced manufacturing settings.
- Implement scripts and small utilities in Python to manage test data parsing, automate fixture control, and monitor infrastructure health.
- Contribute to the definition of test criteria that determine whether a hardware platform is ready for mass production scaling.
Requirements
- Hold a Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or possess equivalent professional experience that demonstrates comparable competence.
- Obtain the ability to reside in China and accommodate the schedule required for regular travel to manufacturing hubs located in Taiwan and Vietnam.
- Demonstrate advanced proficiency in C/C++ programming specifically targeting resource constrained embedded systems with strict timing requirements.
- Decipher electrical schematics, PCB layouts, and component datasheets with speed and accuracy to understand complex circuit topologies.
- Bring direct experience working on factory floors alongside JDMs, CMs, or ODMs while products move through New Product Introduction cycles.
- Apply practical experience debugging multiple communication protocols including CAN, I2C, SPI, and UART to isolate root causes of failures.
- Show a disciplined approach to problem solving where hypotheses are formed based on measured data rather than assumptions.
- Maintain a high level of comfort when interfacing directly with production equipment and operators on the factory floor.
Nice to have
- Professional working proficiency in Mandarin Chinese to reduce friction during on site troubleshooting and daily coordination.
- Experience managing hardware products through the complete lifecycle from initial prototype stages to mature mass production including EVT, DVT, and PVT milestones.
- Proficiency in Python to develop test automation scripts, parse intricate data sets, and build fixture control infrastructure.
- Background in robotics focusing on distributed systems, IMUs, force-torque sensors, and absolute encoders that demand precise firmware control.
Practical notes
This is a full-time position based in China that requires frequent travel to manufacturing facilities in Taiwan and Vietnam. Total compensation may include additional benefits beyond the base salary range. Specific package details are provided upon the extension of an employment offer. Candidates must be prepared to relocate and adapt to varying local conditions on short notice. There are no specific visa sponsorship details outlined in this description, and travel schedules may vary depending on project milestones and production demands.
