FieldAI is now looking for a Senior Robotics Field Application Engineer based in Irvine, California, to work directly with customers in the field. In this position you will be the technical bridge between the company's robot intelligence platform and the deployment sites where it has to perform, helping customers integrate, validate, and operate autonomous systems safely and effectively. It is a hands-on, customer-facing role for someone who is comfortable on a job site, confident around robots, and equally at ease explaining technical details to operations teams. You will own the entire customer deployment lifecycle for robotics systems, from initial site survey and integration planning through on-site installation and ongoing operational support. You will be responsible for diagnosing complex field issues, translating customer requirements into technical specifications, and ensuring that autonomous solutions meet stringent safety and performance standards. This role requires direct interaction with cross-functional internal teams, including engineering and product, to provide critical feedback from the field that shapes product roadmaps and system improvements. You will also mentor less experienced staff and partners on best practices for deploying and troubleshooting autonomous robotics in challenging environments. Ultimately, you will ensure that customers derive maximum value from FieldAI technology while maintaining the highest levels of reliability and safety.

What you'll do
Perform detailed on-site assessments of customer environments to determine the feasibility and optimal configuration of robotics deployment.
Collaborate with customer engineering teams to design and validate system integrations that align with existing workflows and safety protocols.
Lead the installation and commissioning of robotic systems, ensuring all hardware and software components are calibrated and operational.
Conduct rigorous testing of autonomous behaviors in real-world conditions to verify performance against predefined acceptance criteria.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues that arise during system operation, coordinating with internal engineering teams when necessary.
Document all deployment procedures, configurations, and findings to create a clear knowledge base for future installations and support cases.
Communicate technical progress and risks to both customer stakeholders and internal project teams on a regular and structured basis.
Adapt deployment strategies to accommodate environmental variability, operational constraints, and evolving customer requirements.
Support the development of training materials and run workshops to enable customer teams to operate and maintain the robotic systems effectively.
Provide rapid response for critical issues, working extended hours or weekends if required to maintain system uptime and customer satisfaction.
Partner with product management to relay user feedback and field data, influencing future iterations of the robotics platform and its features.
Maintain up-to-date expertise on the latest advancements in robotics, AI, and sensor fusion to advise customers on best practices and emerging trends.
Ensure all deployment activities strictly adhere to company safety guidelines, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
Act as a trusted technical advisor to customers, building long-term relationships based on reliability, transparency, and successful system outcomes.
Requirements
Must possess a Bachelor's degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
Must have demonstrable experience in robotics operations, including the deployment and support of autonomous systems in industrial or field settings.
Must be proficient in programming fundamentals, with hands-on experience in at least one modern programming language such as Python or C++.
Must have a strong understanding of robotics frameworks and tools, including but not limited to ROS or similar middleware platforms.
Must possess solid knowledge of sensors and perception systems, including LiDAR, cameras, and inertial measurement units in industrial contexts.
Must have experience integrating robotic systems with external hardware and software, including PLCs, vision systems, and fleet management tools.
Must be comfortable working in challenging and dynamic environments, including indoor and outdoor sites with varying lighting and spatial constraints.
Must have excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to debug complex, multi-component failures under time pressure.
Must have strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of explaining sophisticated technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
Nice to have
Experience with machine learning models and data pipelines relevant to perception and decision-making in robotics systems.
Familiarity with safety standards and functional safety processes relevant to industrial autonomous systems.

This role is based in Irvine, California.
The position requires travel to customer sites, which may include extended stays.
