What you'll do
- Lead and manage the estimating team, providing guidance and support to ensure accurate and timely cost estimates for civil engineering projects.
- Develop comprehensive cost estimates by analyzing project plans, specifications, and other relevant documents to determine labor, material, and equipment costs.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to gather necessary information for accurate estimating.
- Review and validate estimates prepared by team members, ensuring compliance with company standards and industry best practices.
- Prepare and present detailed bid proposals to clients, highlighting the value and competitive advantages of Fesslerbowman's services.
- Monitor market trends and pricing fluctuations to maintain competitive edge in bidding processes.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits to assess project requirements and potential challenges.
- Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers and subcontractors to secure favorable pricing and terms.
- Implement and refine estimating processes and tools to enhance efficiency and accuracy within the estimating department.
- Provide mentorship and training to junior estimators, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
- Assist in the development of project budgets and financial forecasts, ensuring alignment with company goals and objectives.
- Contribute to strategic planning initiatives, providing insights on estimating practices and market conditions to inform decision-making.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- A minimum of 8 years of experience in cost estimation within the civil construction industry.
- Proven track record of successfully estimating large-scale civil projects, including roads, bridges, and infrastructure.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex project documents and specifications.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
- Proficiency in estimating software and tools, such as Bluebeam, AutoCAD, or similar applications.
- In-depth knowledge of construction materials, methods, and industry standards.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards.

- Professional certifications such as Certified Estimator (CE) or similar credentials.
- Experience with government contracts and public sector projects.
- Familiarity with sustainable construction practices and green building standards.
- Knowledge of project management methodologies and tools.

- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for reporting and presentations.
- Familiarity with project management software (e.g., Primavera, MS Project) to assist in project planning and scheduling.
- Strong mathematical and statistical skills for accurate cost analysis.
- Ability to utilize construction cost databases and resources for benchmarking and pricing.
