Graphic Designer
Job description
About the role
This role directs the creation of external marketing visuals that define brand perception.
Designers shape how products look and feel. Designers create user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and polished visuals. They test ideas with users and iterate on feedback. Design work spans research, interaction design, and visual design. Collaboration with product and engineering happens daily. Design decisions are judged by outcomes such as usability, conversion, and customer satisfaction. Most design teams keep a living design system to keep products consistent.
Key facts
What you'll do
On-brand marketing materials such as decks, one-pagers, social assets, and ads take clear product narratives and communicate them through designed visuals.
Event collateral including signage, booth layouts, swag, and digital and print media materialize to support cohesive in-person experiences.
Messaging from GTM and Product teams transforms into high-impact visual assets that strengthen storytelling and engagement when design choices align with objectives.
Requirements
Professional graphic or marketing design experience spanning 3+ years, with bonus consideration for B2B SaaS, tech startups, or agency backgrounds.
A portfolio that showcases a variety of marketing collateral, including presentations, event materials, digital ads, and decks, demonstrates breadth and depth.
Proficiency with design tools such as Figma, Illustrator, and Photoshop enables efficient execution and iteration.
Expert understanding of branding, typography, layout composition, and visual hierarchy ensures coherent and effective visual systems.
A collaborative mindset supports quick iteration based on feedback while balancing quality and speed to meet production needs.
Experience collaborating with Product, Marketing, or GTM teams aligns visual design with messaging and organizational goals.
Nice to have
Familiarity with motion design, digital ad formats, Midjourney, and UI/UX principles adds versatility to design outcomes.
Practical notes
The role is based in San Francisco, and the team works onsite five days a week within walking distance of Caltrain. Typical interview steps
Design interviews usually include a portfolio review, a design exercise, and a team conversation. Candidates present past work and explain their process and decisions. Some loops include a live design challenge. Communication matters as much as the visual output. Portfolios are strongest when they show the problem, the constraints, and the iteration, not just the final screens. Interviewers also watch how you take feedback.
Good to know
Design work often involves fast iteration and clear communication with cross-functional partners.
Tools like Figma, Illustrator, and Photoshop form the core environment for creating and refining visuals.
Motion design and experimental tools can expand impact in digital formats when used thoughtfully.
Growth design focuses on how visuals influence user behavior and support measurable outcomes.
Effective layout, typography, and hierarchy determine how clearly messages are received.
Design systems and brand guidelines help maintain consistency across diverse touchpoints.
Questions to ask
Useful questions for the interview: what a typical week looks like, how work is assigned, what tools the team uses, and how feedback works. Asking how the role has changed recently and what the team wishes it had known when joining is also reasonable. Questions about the manager's priorities are especially valued.
Career growth
Design careers grow from junior to senior, staff, and principal levels. Some designers move into design management or design operations. Specializations include UX research, interaction design, and brand design. Cross-functional influence grows with seniority. Senior designers are expected to influence product strategy, not just execute visuals. Building a habit of user research strengthens any design career.
