Analytics Engineer
Job description
About the role
Extend is transforming the post-purchase customer journey for retailers. We are seeking an Analytics Engineer to ensure the accuracy and integrity of our financial and operational data. This role is crucial for supporting reconciliation, audit readiness, and precise payment processing for our partners. You will own the critical flow between raw event streams and the financial datasets that drive executive decisions. A significant portion of your work will involve tracing data lineage to validate that transactions reconcile correctly across internal databases and external provider systems. You will act as the primary technical liaison ensuring that the numbers used for financial reporting are reproducible and trustworthy. This position requires a meticulous mindset to catch discrepancies before they escalate into reporting or payment failures. Ultimately, you will enable the business to operate with confidence by building robust foundations for data-driven financial operations.
Location: Remote (USA)
Engagement: Salaried
Team: Accounting, Operations, Reporting, Engineering
What you'll do
Investigate the root causes of data discrepancies in financial workflows, documenting findings and solutions to prevent future recurrence. You will construct and optimize data models in Snowflake that support complex reimbursement calculations and multi-entity consolidation logic. Developing modular dbt transformations will be essential to standardize payment events and align them with contractual terms defined by merchants.
You will design and maintain automated tests within dbt to enforce data quality rules on critical financial columns and dimensional accuracy. Performing detailed reconciliations between platform transaction logs and external bank or provider statements will ensure balance integrity. Leveraging Thunderclient and Postman, you will validate endpoints, inspect payload structures, and monitor the health of integrations affecting expense data and payment workflows.
Collaborating with Accounting, you will translate nuanced revenue recognition policies into deterministic SQL logic and data models. Leading documentation efforts for data pipelines will ensure that business definitions and edge cases are captured for audit scenarios. You will partner with Operations to streamline claim submission processes, enhancing visibility into the status and financial impact of outstanding items. Supporting ad hoc analysis for contract sales teams, you will provide accurate data extracts and dashboards to track performance against targets.
Implementing monitoring and alerting for data pipeline failures will be critical to ensure timely responses to issues that could impact financial reporting deadlines. Working closely with the Engineering team, you will embed data validation checks at the point of ingestion from third-party service providers. Participating in on-call rotations will enable you to address urgent data integrity issues that may arise during peak financial close periods. Championing best practices for version control and code review will maintain high standards of quality across the analytics codebase.
