Key facts

What you'll do

• Manage the end-to-end process of ocean freight imports, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of goods.
• Coordinate with shipping lines and freight forwarders to secure space and negotiate rates for ocean shipments.
• Prepare and review import documentation, including bills of lading, commercial invoices, and customs declarations.
• Liaise with customs brokers to ensure compliance with all import regulations and facilitate smooth customs clearance.
• Monitor shipment status and proactively communicate updates to internal teams and customers.
• Resolve any issues or discrepancies that arise during the import process, including delays or documentation errors.
• Maintain accurate records of all import transactions and documentation in the company's logistics system.
• Collaborate with the finance team to ensure timely payment of freight invoices and other import-related expenses.
• Analyze import data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for process improvement.
• Provide exceptional customer service by addressing inquiries and concerns related to ocean imports.
• Participate in training and development initiatives to stay current with industry regulations and best practices.
• Assist in the development and implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for ocean import operations.

Requirements

• A minimum of 3 years of experience in ocean freight import operations or a related field.
• Strong knowledge of customs regulations and import procedures.
• Proficiency in logistics management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact effectively with various stakeholders.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to manage multiple shipments and priorities simultaneously.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Problem-solving skills to address challenges that may arise during the import process.
• Familiarity with international shipping terms and practices, including Incoterms.

Nice to have

• Experience with customs brokerage or freight forwarding is a plus.
