What you'll do
- Conduct thorough inspections of coating applications on various substrates to ensure compliance with industry standards and specifications.
- Interpret and analyze project specifications, drawings, and technical documents to determine coating requirements.
- Perform surface preparation assessments and ensure proper techniques are employed prior to coating application.
- Utilize advanced inspection tools and techniques to evaluate coating thickness, adhesion, and overall quality.
- Document inspection findings and prepare detailed reports that outline compliance with NACE standards and project specifications.
- Collaborate with project managers and contractors to address any coating-related issues and provide recommendations for improvements.
- Participate in pre-job meetings to discuss coating procedures, safety protocols, and quality expectations with team members.
- Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and changes in NACE standards to ensure continuous improvement in inspection processes.
- Provide training and mentorship to junior inspectors and other team members on coating inspection techniques and safety practices.
- Assist in the development of quality control plans and procedures to enhance the efficiency of coating operations.
- Engage in regular communication with clients to ensure their expectations are met and to provide updates on project progress.
- Conduct field audits and assessments to verify the effectiveness of coating applications and maintenance practices.
Requirements
- Certification as a NACE Coating Inspector Level 1 or higher is mandatory.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in coating inspection within the industrial sector.
- Strong understanding of coating materials, application methods, and surface preparation techniques.
- Proficiency in using inspection tools such as dry film thickness gauges, adhesion testers, and holiday detectors.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey inspection results and recommendations.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high safety and quality standards.
- Familiarity with relevant industry codes and standards, including SSPC and ASTM.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to job sites as needed.
Nice to have
- Additional NACE certifications, such as Level 2 or Level 3, are a plus.
- Experience with coating inspection in specialized industries such as oil and gas, marine, or infrastructure.
- Knowledge of non-destructive testing methods and equipment.
- Familiarity with project management software and tools.
- Previous experience in a supervisory or leadership role within a coating inspection team.
