Senior Mobile Engineer
Job description
About the role
EarnIn is pioneering earned wage access by building real-time financial tools for individuals who manage living paycheck to paycheck, enabling them to spend, save, and grow money without mandatory fees, interest rates, or credit checks. The successful hire will own the execution and outcomes of high-impact mobile initiatives within the Growth Engineering organization, working closely with cross-functional partners to define, build, and optimize customer experiences. You will leverage deep Android expertise while remaining flexible to contribute across iOS, backend, and web stacks as the problem demands, ensuring solutions align with broader product and business goals. This role emphasizes data-driven decision-making, where every feature is instrumented, tested, and optimized based on its impact on acquisition, activation, engagement, and retention. You will play a key part in an AI-native engineering workflow, using modern coding tools to accelerate development, automate testing, and drive rapid experimentation. The position is hybrid, based in our expanding Bangkok office, and offers opportunities to collaborate with our global team and potentially travel to our Mountain View, CA headquarters. You will shape the next chapter of EarnIn's growth journey by delivering measurable business outcomes and owning the full lifecycle of mobile features.
Key facts
What you'll do
Partner with product, design, and analytics from problem definition onward - shaping what we build and why, including writing up the spec, not just implementing finished ones.
Build and refine the systems that drive acquisition, activation, engagement, and retention - deciding what to test, when to ship it, and how to measure it.
Work across the stack as needed - owning Android, but contributing to iOS, backend, or web (React/TypeScript) when that's where the problem lives.
Work in an AI-native way - using AI coding tools and agents for cross-stack code generation, spec-driven development, and faster iteration across Android, iOS, backend, and web.
Translate customer pain points and business goals into technical solutions, and push back when the data suggests a better path.
Run and instrument experiments (A/B tests, funnels, activation flows, retention loops) to validate that what we ship actually moves growth metrics - and kill what doesn't.
Develop a scalable architecture that enables the organization to remain agile as it expands.
Drive decisions on the strategies and methodologies used in app development and testing at EarnIn.
Ship iteratively - prioritize ruthlessly, scope MVPs, and balance speed against quality to get value to CMs faster.
Create Unit and Automation (UI) Tests to ensure new code doesn't break existing features and meets product requirements.
Own your projects end-to-end - from spec through launch and iteration - with minimal oversight.
Continuously evaluate and optimize mobile performance, stability, and user experience to support growth objectives.
Collaborate closely with analytics and marketing teams to ensure experiments are properly instrumented and results are used to inform future work.
Act as a technical leader within the Growth Engineering pods, mentoring and influencing peers through code reviews, design discussions, and best practices.
Requirements
Bachelor's (or higher, e.g., MS or PhD) in Computer Science or a related technical field or equivalent technical experience.
4+ years of industry experience building, shipping, and maintaining mobile applications at scale, with a strong focus on Android.
A growth mindset: you care about acquisition, activation, engagement, and retention outcomes, are comfortable with ambiguity, and can take a high-level idea and shape it into an implemented solution.
Experience working with analytics, A/B testing frameworks, and data-driven decision-making to guide product and technical strategies.
Strong proficiency in Android development, including Java and Kotlin, with a solid understanding of modern Android architecture, patterns, and best practices.
Comfort shipping code frequently and iterating based on real-world performance and user feedback, even when requirements are evolving.
Ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines, including product, design, analytics, marketing, and backend engineering.
Experience with React/TypeScript, backend services, or web technologies is a plus, as the role requires cross-stack flexibility to solve problems where they live.
Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools and workflows is preferred, given the team's focus on using AI to increase engineering velocity and experimentation speed.
Ownership of end-to-end product delivery, including scoping, prioritization, execution, and measurement, with minimal need for direct supervision.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to articulate technical tradeoffs and align stakeholders around shared goals.
A passion for using technology to improve financial wellbeing and an understanding of the constraints and needs of users living paycheck to paycheck.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to break down complex problems into manageable, testable pieces.
Demonstrated ability to learn quickly across new domains, technologies, and interfaces while maintaining a high standard of quality.
